Only people with home-made "interpretations" seem to love it

The only people that seem to love the film are those that give it their own fan-fic interpretations involving time travel, and all 3 stories being real. I have not seen one person yet love it when they accept the movie for what it was. So what was it? The Mayan and future krishna ubermensch are fake. The fact that there was a tree in South America that had some curative agents doesn't equal that her story was true. What a coincidence it would be if she wrote a fictional story and it turned out that everything in it was coincidentally true. Secondly, the future Krishna Tom was fake. It was obviously the ending he added in. She even told him that the story ends that way while she was alive ( it starts in Spain but ends in the nebula), AND the fictional Mayan priest from her story encounters this Krishna version. What actually happened was that a guy was having a hard time accepting that his wife was dead and gone forever, and then he finally coped with it. People that accept this "interpretation" don't seem to like the movie though.

I accept this interpretation and I think it's the most valid interpretation of the film. I still love the movie though, which kind of goes against your initial claim.

This is exactly how I interpreted it and it's one of my favorite films. Such a beautiful piece about accepting the reality of death and how spiritually liberating it is to do so. Very misunderstood, unfortunately, but likely because a theme like that of accepting death is a little heavy for folks who go into this movie expecting a tacky love story or an interstellar sci-fi flick. Admittedly, the point of this movie went way over my head the first couple of times I watched it. Patience is a virtue.

You mean there's not really a bald man in space floating in a bubble eating his treewife?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Um, I knew that the Mayan and future Tom were fake and it's one of my top 5 favorite films. Also, everyone I know in my everyday life who has seen this film loves it.
