Seems like he just "confirmed" the three leads as dead just so people would stop asking him, or just to tie up all lose ends in this entry.
You could literally take his "confirmation" out of the picture and it would still work.
In my personal opinion, they are more likely to be dead, as the train still crashed either way. The only one who could have been saved from her Train-Premonition death (again in my opinion) would be Julie, and even that would be a close call. I think it would be too hard to get to Kevin in time, and Wendy's leg would probably have still been broken, unless she remembered exactly when it happened in the premonition and avoided it, but either way the train still crashed. So they are more likely to be dead - in my opinion.
My favorite Final Destination is the 4th – DEAL with it!
Considering we heard the subway crash, it's safe to say they died.
