This is the last good one.

I don't know who else agrees, but I think that not only is this by far the most underrated part, but it's the last one I really liked. It was relatively well-written, the characters were fun and the protagonist, while first a bit of a dick, became awesome in my book (with tremendous acting by Winstead) and it even has great deaths. I think part 4 took away all the charm and stripped it away by using the 3D gimmick and making it too over-the-top, not the entertaining kind of over-the-top. It also had terrible character, I think there was only one I liked. Part 5 is a huge improvement, but it's full of flaws too, in that it for example is too similar to the first one by trying so hard to be like it. It also has some of the negative elements of part 4.

The first three is a perfect trilogy. The fifth one is worth seeing, but not that memorable. The fourth is garbage. Complete, utter garbage.

I personally disagree, as I found the fourth and fifth to be very memorable. Also, the fourth is my favorite one (yes, my favorite is the hated one) even though I agree it should have been a lot better.

I definitely understand why someone would like part 4, but I think they went way too over-the-top with the camp value, and the plot was also too thin to be interesting.

Actually I think part 3 had some of the same problems as part 4: Convoluted death sequences, mostly unlikable characters and a very thin plot.

Not to mention that it doesn't add anything new to thee franchise.

Part 5 at least tried to do something different by adding the "take a life for a life" concept, and it had an impressive use of 3D.

I agree, 3&4 are the low parts of the series. Five brought it back to good though. I think it's because 3&4 did the least to connect to the others, and kind of did their own thing. The 2nd adds a cool 'death connects everything and is going backwards' concept, and was funny as hell.

This one stopped all of that and just made a generic entry. Not a lot stands out about it, everything is pretty generic and by the numbers, same with the fourth. The first was novel and a lot of fun, the 2nd expanded the movieverse and added some new ideas, then this one comes along and craps all over that.
