They pulled a switcharoo

Has anyone seen "Pride and Prejudice" with Greer Grson, Lawrence Olivier, and Edna May Oliver?

I set the dvr so I could see an older version and it recorded as the 2005 version which I've watched multiple times.

Give it a try.

As an adaptation of Austen, it's a travesty. But it's enormous fun. And Garson plays the best Elizabeth ever - even if she's too old.

I ha my heart set on seeing the 1940 version. Given the chance, I will watch older versions, and was disappointed 'they' made the decision for me not to see it. Thank you for your accessment, supergran.

It's on YouTube.

I agree with Supergran it's fun, it's not very faithful to the book but it has some nice moments and Garson captures Elizabeth's arch sweetness beautifully.

Gosh, Thank you, teatat. I didn't think YouTube would have it so I didn't check. I should've known better.

The 1940 P&P is the first version I ever saw. I still love it. As others have said, it's not very faithful to the book, but that's not unusual for the time when the film was made (check out how much is omitted from the 1943 version of Jane Eyre). And Greer Garson is a delight.
