Apologies if this has been covered, but are they actually going ahead with a third film to complete everything? I assume they might wait another decade to make it but I was just wondering if things were still in the cards even though this film didn't do as well critically as the first film did.

She had her finger in her mouth due to mouth pain. She had some kind of lesions that went down her throat. It's described in detail in a book I have somewhere.

LOL i'm afraid that horse has already left the barn and will never be found again.. re: they should've stopped with the first one and called it a day.. i.e., judging from the critical and laughter-inducing fiasco 'the golden age' was treated to in the press, why would anyone want to rework this 'turkey' and risk even more ebarrassment? if cate blanchett cares an iota about her career, she will flat out decline to have anything more to do with this trainwreck franchise..

I hope so I'm looking forward to more breathtakingly beautiful costumes and makeup and Cate Blanchett giving another stunning performance.I imagine it will be about her and Essex and Ireland and obviously her death.
There is next to no chance for a sequel, though I would love one (it amazes me that Cate Blanchett didn't win an Oscar in 1998 or 2007 for her portrayal of Elizabeth, though to be fair in 2007 it went to an equally deserving performance). I should add that the director in the commentary for this film does allude to doing a sequel or wanting to, this is just before the camera starts spinning around Elizabeth, when describing the visuals he says (paraphrasing), "which I'll do more in the next one". Whether this just means his next film, or the next Elizabeth film, I'm not sure, but to me it sounded like he was referring to a third Elizabeth film.
The reason why a sequel wont be made is strictly from a financial perspective. This film did poorly at the box-office and is likely to have lost money for those who financed it. It may be made if in a decade those with the rights to this series believe that another film would perform better, and/or if the budget could be significantly reduced. The chances are very slim though, and as it stands I'm satisfied with having 'just' the two films, though as already stated would like to see another.
For relaxing times, make it Suntory time...
Like the original, it made its money back on the international screens. Totally, it pulled in $74,237,563 on 50m budget.

To which they get half, add print costs, advertising and the truth to the budget and no one outside the studio (and auditors no doubt) can really say. Films rarely officially make money even though they clearly do.

Becuase a sequel means no more Geoffrey Rush as Wallsinham and I couldnt watch an Elizabeth film without him.
I know the main character here is Elizabeth but Wallsinham had a lot to do in Elizabeth's success as a queen
Indeed, there is plenty to cover. Golden Age covered a very important part of her life. Personally, I felt the Spanish Arm could been more of the central point, but remember its a movie not a moviementary, the ones who have attempted that approach have failed-Alexander.
Im not quite sure of the budget for the Golden Age (not reported) but I educationally est. it to be within the 70M range, which is the amount if pulled in mostly. Likely 20 to 30M more in rentals and royalties.
Looking at historical monarch based movies, there have been a significant few and won very prestigious awards, but they didn't pull in the big amount needed to spurn more in the coming years.
Only hope that someone could feed off is The Tudors, but that time has passed. I hope an Elizabeth series is pitched.

Doubt it seeing as this film was a failure. Not many investors are willing to take risks on sequels to financial failures.
shareDepends, honestly. I remember reading somewhere at the time, that Cate took on the role due to the urging of Geoffrey Rush. So the question is, would she do it again? Probably not right now, no. She just won the Oscar for Best Actress, so she's on top of the world right now.
Also in some other interviews that were done around the release of E:TGA, Shekhar mentioned that if he made a third film, the actors would all have to do some aging before it happens. He alluded that he would want to set the third film around her twilight days, when she had to face up to her mortality and impending death.
Thus, if it was to really happen...could be in another 10-20 years down the line before anything really happens.
Other ways it could also happen is the deal that Working Title has. It's been mentioned in the past that WT's contract with Universal allows them to go ahead with films that have a budget of up to 30 or 40 million. If it hits 50 million dollars or above, then WT has to go to Universal and ask nicely for the funding. So if they go low budget for Part III and turn it into a big period piece (ditch CGI and such), it might work.
Case in point, the film "Anonymous". Had a budget of $30 million (not sure what P&A was), but the budget was kept low enough to make it happen. However, the film failed to make a profit, sooooooooo........
Anyway, it may or may not happen, but if it does....it will be quite a long while before it does.

She might make herself available for another film, but that doesn't mean it will happen. As others have noted above, this film, with its much larger budget than the first, would have definitely lost money, virtually ruling out any possibility of a third film.🐭
