Anybody else think Grey's has changed, for the worse

So I started re-watching Grey's from the beginning, and watching season 2 vs season 12 seems like its two different shows now. In the beginning of the show, the doctors actually talked about the patients and you felt like they cared about the patients.
Now it seems like all the doctors care about is themselves and who's dating who. Hardly talking about the patients at all, Its like the show spends 5 minutes talking about the patients and 40 minutes about the doctors, and the show used to be about 50/50. They would about half the time talking about themselves and the doctors lives and the other half was spent talking about the patients.
I think the cast being so big is part of the problem, they have so many main characters the show doesn't have time to focus on the patients anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this?

The cast having a ton of main characters shouldn't be an issue with decent writers. Look at LOST, The Wire, Sons of Anarchy and etc.

It's considered a primetime soap opera, so I'm not expecting it to be like HOUSE or ER where the medicine is a huge part of the show and the talking about themselves and their personal lives are a tiny subplot.

Please don't mention SOA or The Wire when discussing Grey',s that's insulting to those high-quality shows (LOL).

Anyhow, I totally agree with your last statement. Grey's used be a very good show about medicine and the medical field and it's totally a prime time soap at this point, nothing more.

I used to think it was more of a medical procedure drama but now it seems like its a soap opera that happens to take place in a hospital

It was never a medical procedural. Chicago Hope or ER were more medical procedural shows, and ER just barely. Grey's was a nighttime drama that happened to be in a hospital, or did you miss the opening scene with naked Meredith and Derek?
