Izzie was Alex's true love

He confessed it to Mer, if Jo was his true love he wouldn't have even have thought of Izzie when he was talking to Meredith and comparing his love for Izzie to her's for Derek. I have no idea where they will end Alex's story now, but I think the writers recognise that Alex loved Izzie in a way he has never loved Jo.

reply

Meredith was the one who mentioned Izzy's name. Mer even said Izzy wasn't his true love. At one point she may have been his true love, but after the way she treated him, I'd say all bets are off. & when Alex mentioned Derek, Mer said that was different, because it was. He died. He left her, but he didn't have a choice. Izzy choose to leave

reply

Meredith mentioned her name as she knew who he was talking about and he confirmed this was the case, that he considers his love for Izzie was like her love for Derek and you only get one shot at 'that' so Jo is just a secondary love. Only Alex knows how he feels, not Meredith, so she can think what she wants but she isn't inside his head and heart. I remember early SR interviews, where she said whatever happened Izzie was Alex's true love and they were made for each other. That scene was a wink to that I think. Izzie choosing to leave is irrelevant, you can't help who you fall in love with, however they may treat you or how badly things might end up, which I think was actually Meredith's end conclusion to that scene on reflection...as she says "Even if she was..."

(And Izzie left in the end as Alex told her to, she wanted to work it out, he didn't, she didn't have a lot of choice, as she had no job in Seattle either)

reply

Izzy was his true real love? BAHAHAHAHA. You have got to be kidding.

She treated him like trash and she was a completely horrid person and her exit said it all. She can fall off the face of the earth for all I care.

The fact that she wanted to work it out and he rejected that idea and hasn't talked about her pretty much at all since she left. Like it or not, Jo is a better fit than that blonde bimbo.

reply

Personally I think they are both bad fits. I don't think he's found his endgame yet.

reply

Well thats your opinion as an Izzie hater, but lot's wouldn't agree. If she treated him like trash once when she was going through something major, he treated her like trash on many more occasions. Cheating, lying, yelling at her after she'd had major brain surgery, to name a few.

Like it or not, Jo is a better fit than that blonde bimbo.

She might be a better fit as she is still around and hasn't left Alex (yet) over a misunderstanding, but that's irrelevant as to whether she is his one 'big' love or not. The fact Alex brought Izzie up and compared his love for her to Meredith's to Derek kind of says it all. He mentioned that he wasn't surprised it wasn't working out with Jo as he'd come to realise you only get one shot at 'that' (the once in a lifetime love he had with Izzie).

Also for the record, Izzie was hardly a blonde bimbo. But I love how it's acceptable to judge someone you hate, for being blonde.

reply

Um, I found Izzie annoying sometimes, but she's hardly a bimbo. I don't think a bimbo would be able to not only be accepted to medical school but actually get all the way through and end up at a top surgical residency program.

Also, she gets a lot of hate for leaving Alex, but do people not remember that she had just barely survived cancer? That kind of thing will leave you in a very fragile state of mind, and you might do things that are out of character and that don't show the best judgment. That's just human.

I thought Alex was unnecessarily cruel to when he refused to take her back. There was no obligation for him to take her back, but he basically just acted like she's a horrible human being for leaving him and putting him through the ringer. I think he could have been kinder in letting her down, just tell her that he loves her but just can't deal with being with her anymore because of the emotional rollercoaster. It was pretty ridiculous that she just showed up out of the blue and expected to pick up right where she left off with Alex, even getting pissed when he told her he had slept with someone else and saying "Damn it Alex." Considering that she's the one who left him, she really didn't have the right to be mad. And simply saying "we'll get through it" as if he just has no other choice but to take her back and get through it with her. That was kind of ridiculous.

reply

That whole storyline was rushed, out of character for both Izzie and Alex. Alex was so crazy in love with her he made Webber ignore her DNR, but he then he couldn't even give her ONE second chance, when she came back to him? When she had given him many more over their on/off relationship. It didn't make sense. When you love someone so much, you're blind and often make foolish, illogical decisions based on your heart, Alex would have tried to work it out with her, and Izzie would have tried harder to make amends and not just have acted like a bitch to both him and Meredith! But off-screen, KH had quit the show, so obviously they couldn't do work it out, but they could have written something more believable and in character. The finale for season 6 was the only redeeming part, when he was basically calling out for her to come back to him and that he was 'sorry'.

reply

I think Meredith mentioned Izzy because other than her & Jo, Alex was never in a real relationship on Greys. He was with Lucy briefly and she screwed him over. He had several one night stands that meant nothing to him. Lexie could be considered, but neither really were in love with the other. So Izzy really the only logical choice which Meredith did not believe she was the one

reply

I think Meredith is damaged, and wants everyone else to be too. Izzie hurt her too when she left and there is clearly bad blood from the way she said her name. Possibly the middle finger to Heigl yet again too!!! Who knows? But, I think she knows that deep down there is a possibility that Izzie will always be Alex's 'Derek', but that doesn't matter as she is gone forever. She finished the conversation with "okay, even if she is..' as if to say even if she was your 'true' love, you're still better off with Jo as she is here and loves you. Meredith can think what she wants but only Alex knows the truth. He was head over heels for Izzie. Jo is a better fit and he loves her too, but his love for Izzie was insane.

reply

I saw it to mean is "even if she is", she's not here, she hasn't been here. Maybe Jo is right for you, maybe not, but she was saying you can get more than one true love (except Derek was different), some years later maybe Meredith will find a new true love, but Derek was there more than Izzy was

reply

Derek was around longer than Izzie was, but thats not to say that Meredith loved Derek more than Alex loved Izzie. He loved her so much he persuaded the chief to ignore her DNR! He told her that he couldn't survive without her. I have never got the feels that he loved Jo in that same way.

I think his point was that kind of 'intensely deep' love, only comes around once in a life-time. Thats not to say that both Meredith and Alex can't love or be happy with anyone else, it just won't be as intense. Izzie isn't around and Jo is, so I think Meredith's conclusion was for Alex whatever Izzie was for him is irrelevant now.

reply

I don't know if insane is the correct word, but Alex once he finds someone who is either damaged, hurt, sick feels the need to be the one to take care of them as if it is his responsibility.
1. His mother was ill, his father left, as he said to his father, "I was the dad"
2. Ava/Rebecca, she had some mental problems, he was there for her "hysterical pregnancy", even taking her word over Izzy's. Bathed her, washed her hair, took her to the hospital when she slit her wrists and continued to try to help her until Izzy got her committed.
3. Izzy, even after she rejected him for Denny, he took it upon himself to carry off the bed & hold her after Denny died. He was tender, caring & took care of her when she got Cancer. When she was healthy he tried, but she rejected his help and then things went down hill from there.
4. Lexie was just a fling, someone to ease the pain of Izzy
5. He had multiple one night stands & then it looked like he might have something w/Lucy & he was going to stay behind for her, then she pulls the rug under him & takes the grant
6. Jo, she got beat up, he tended to her cuts & bruises, went to confront Jason, but he was already beat up & he took him to the hospital & got Meredith & Christina to cover for her.
7. Even after the yelling & going after his dad, he stayed w/him until he died
8. Meredith, after she got attacked, he slept by her bedside & checked in on her often. She finally had to tell him to leave & be w/Jo after she was healed. Even before that he kept calling to make sure she was ok when she ran off after Derek died.

And now he attacks Delucca (what was truly going through his mind we don't know for sure) but that is Alex mentality. He lashes out when he is hurt or rejected.

1. When he kept trying to reach Izzy (after she left) during the I Saw What I Saw episode w/the patient {April accidentally killed) while everyone was waiting for their Q&A Jackson said something about Alex & the phone calls & he jumps him
2. After his father died & he blamed Shane for the hatched job, Shane tried to apologize, & told him to walk away, but Shane wouldn't & Alex lost it & went full on metal on Shane
He's gone after paitents parents accusing them of not being a good enough parent to their child (because that's what happened to him)

I agree. Alex brings her up on his own all the time... whenever having conversations with people about their one true love, one getting away, etc etc. He has hinted so many times essp that scene where he was shot and thought Lexie was Izzie-- that Izzie was his one true love. Which is why I wish Shonda would just let her return to the show. And if she wont then I think Alex/Meredith should be end game.
