Bailey threatens to fire Alex?
Doesn't Alex own part of the hospital? Yang gave him her shares.

shareI thought she just gave him her seat on the board, which the board overruled and gave to Bailey? There may be something I'm not remembering though- I hated so much of that season that I've mentally blocked it out.
shareI know he lost the seat to Bailey but he still owns Yang's shares in the hospital. I imagine as chief she can fire him from the surgical staff. But he'd still have ownership.
shareShe gave him her shares, I don't know if that means anything to ownership, but I believe that all that was overruled and Bailey got the seat. Other than the occasional name dropping or I hold some weight with what happens here, I don't think Alex's job is safe. They pretty much don't talk about the board anymore, but it would be interesting to have a board meeting and vote on him
shareDidn't Bailey ask Alex would he rather she fire him instead of working in the clinic? I didn't take it as a threat. I think she wanted him to see working in the clinic was better than being fired, since he scoffed when Bailey told him he'd be working in the clinic. In reality, Alex would have been suspended until after his trial. However, this is Grey's Anatomy world so Alex is working in the clinic.
Cristina left her shares in the hospital and her board seat to Alex. Alex should still owns his shares because that was transferring ownership from one person to another. Because the Board decided to vote on the two candidates for the seat, it (the seat) went to Bailey by unanimous vote.
I'm so deeply confused about the entire situation. This assault didn't happen at work. So, short of him being convicted for a felony, exactly why is his job in jeopardy?
shareProbably because there's a morality clause in his contract with the hospital.
shareThe board is just the ruling body of the hospital or company. The shareholders are the actual owners. Bailey is on the board, but does not have any shares. Alex is not on the board, but has shares. So Bailey threatening him, and that Doctor in the clinic treating him like crap, and him asking to leave early, makes no sense. He owns them all.
shareShe mostly took him off surgery because he was distracted by the legal proceedings and everything else and there was tension in the staff because of his actions which were comprising the quality of care for their patients
shareYes, before he was distracted, he didn't listen to Ben when that kid needed help, and Meredith and others had to fix it. I think that was why she sent him to the client clinic, not the pending assault charges. Until he is convicted, he can still practice medicine. Even if he serves his time he can return, look House got to after his stint in prison....lol
shareBecause him assaulting another person puts his medical license in jeopardy. Without that, Alex wouldn't be allowed to practice medicine. It's irrelevant where he attacked his victim. Had DeLuca died, Alex would be charged with murder. He's lucky the man didn't die.
Instead of scoffing at the laughable consequence to practice medicine in the clinic instead of where he could kill patients with his scalpel, Karev should be grateful to still breathe his air outside a jail cell. Where he belongs.
Meh, two doctors (Maggie and Owen) in the last 2 years have assaulted people at work, and absolutely no one seemed to give a crap.
Not to mention Yang, Bailey and Webber violating Izzie's DNR which is also assault.
None of those you mentioned left their victims in quite as bad a state as DeLuca had been. Meaning, none needing surgery. Not saying it was okay then, but it didn't cause the same level of harm.
The only one that came close (even worse) was Jo/Jason. But Alex made sure then to threaten Jason out of talking to the police to protect his prescious liar.
In the real world, Alex would be suspended. At least until after he got to cry to a judge about his sorry childhood.
That's the same in fiction and reality. The only ones that ever suffer are the actual victims made to pay painfully for a Guilty One's boohoo childhood they were not even present for. Alex will be treated the same anyway, so I don't even know why they bother pretending as if he's in any danger to be punished.
His jealousy got the best of him and he'll just get off scott free.
