O'mally and Izzie's friendship turned lovers turned...what?

What did I miss here? End of Season 3 these two were both weak and in a weak state slept with each other while Izzie realized she was in love with George. Then Season 4 George realized that he was in love with her and broke it off with Callie because of that and because he rushed into a marriage he wasn't ready for. Fine. But the end of season 4 not only do George and Izzie feel like just best friends again but NOW in the beginning of Season 5, Izzie is kissing Karev for comfort and getting doh eyes with him while George is kissing Sister Grey.
What did I miss?!?! When did George and Izzie stop persuing their love for each other and why? What a waste! It can't be when they were having trouble having sex because they both ended up having great sex after a bunch of fails if I remember correctly. So what happened and when?

reply

They realized that they didn't have chemistry. The sex was bad (when they were sober).

reply

That sums it up. If they had only had sober sex first they could have saved themselves a lot of heartbreak. But they had to be drunk for the first time for it to happen at all. Their 'relationship' just underlines the fact that Izzie looks before she leaps and George is in love with the idea of being in love. I also think Callie is like Lizzie, with the leaping before she looks, or she would have realized George was marrying her to distract from the pain of losing his father. And she would have wanted to drop her life and run to New York with a woman she hadn't dated long.

reply

So all that was for no reason. Even tho George did marry Callie pre-maturally, he still loved her so the Izzie/George affair was for nothing. That's a shame.
So they(Izzie and George) were NOT really in love with each other just because their sexual chemistry turned out to be non existent? Since when does sex determine how you feel about someone?

I just find it hard to believe that just because they aren't compatable in bed that they are all of a sudden "just friends" again and don't have feelings for each other anymore. Like that speech Izzie gave him while tieing his tie before Christina's wedding was way to powerful to just be a phase.

reply

Yeah, that whole story in my opinion ultimately killed their characters before they died or left the show. It was stupid and pointless and turned George against everything he believed in. I loved George in season 1.

reply

that's the storyline Katherine Heigl talked about when she critisized Shonda about her writing....

Who can blame her, I hated the George Izzie story...

Shonda needs to grow a pear and let Izzie return and kick Jo out of Alex life.

reply

Izzie was the most annoying character. I don't miss her at all.

reply

George only kinda kissed Little Grey. Lexie liked him, but he didn't feel the same way. He just gave a thank you kiss, I get to take my intern exam again kiss. She was the one who wanted more. His kiss was about 10 times more platonic than the kiss April gave Jackson after she punched that guy. That kiss was more forceful and then of course what happened later was also more intense.

reply

That whole story line was laughable. To think that plain looking George would bed Mer, Callie, Izzie and have Lexi fawning all over him. Shows that the writers on this show don't have a clue.

It wasn't that they didn't have chemistry, it was Izzie waking up and seeing, omg, I can't date this dude, look at me, look at him, end of romance.

So many good points in this...

I think that George liked Callie, but was afraid to lose her. I didn't like them together. It just seems really strange and the were times when Callie looked like she was a deer trapped in headlights. It went from her going after him, pressing him to a certain extent, to sleeping together, to BOOM! Married. George didn't really get to really make his feelings for her known and understood. He was dealing with the death of his Dad and all of the feelings that go along with it, especially since he was a doctor and a surgeon and he wasn't able to save him... Callie maybe went after him because he was safe. He was cute and funny. She probably in denial or wasn't aware of her sexuality.

Izzie... who knows why the writers did that. Izzie...how do you even explain Izzie? They had even less chemistry than George and Callie. Izzie was supposed to be his "best friend", yet she was never nice to Callie, never supported the reaction ship that Callie and George had, and never supported their marriage. She flirted with him while he was married, said, "I love you" while he was married, downplayed and even kind of dismissed what happened between them... What kind of friend, "best" or otherwise, does that?

Like someone said, he was taken and she needed someone, so she went after him... and then.. well, they both realized that it was wrong and that it shouldn't have happened (they both had looks of horror and wondered what they were doing).. and yes, it was strange that they went right back to being friends. Izzie went from the hockey guy to Alex to Denny to Alex to George then back to Alex... Izzie had her moments, but... I mean she was funny, cute, bubbly, could really make herself relatable to her patients, could bake, could make a home homey... but.... look what she did to Denny. She almost killed him because she was afraid of being alone. She fell in love with a patient. She dragged her friends into the dram, putting all of their educations and carers at risk (not to mention Dr. Bailey's, Dr. Webber's and the hospital's standings. She had that party where she invited half the hospital without letting Meredith know, she gets sick and didn't want anyone to know until Cristina told her tonight and rallied everyone around her. Meredith pushed up and then gave Izzie her wedding! George dies and she laughs (granted she did say that she laughed at funerals) at her funeral and kind of made it all about her. She leaves Alex by note without saying good bye to anyone after all they did for her, she comes back expecting to be welcomed back with open arms, and then leaves again, and this time with all of her bills for Alex to pay. I have a feeling that had George lived, her coming back and then leaving again expecting for Alex to pay all of her bills, would have been the straw that broke the camel's back and he would have just gone off on her and ended the friendship, bringing up everything that she did to everyone.

George I miss. I think that he would have been a fantastic trauma surgeon and ER doctor, that he'd be a great Uncle to Tuck, Zola, Sophia, Baby Bailey, and Ellis... He'd be there for Dr. Bailey when she was having her issues that turned into OCD... He would have been there for Cristina when she was struggling with PTSD from the shooting and the plane crash, when Owen cheated on her, when she was getting ready to leave. He would have been there for Alex when he got shot and when he was dealing with all of the issues of not being on the plane that killed Lexie and Mark and seriously injured Arizona. He would have been there for Callie when she was in her accident and when she was recovering. I c an't picture Izzie in any of those situations or being supportive. Who would he be now, it's hard to say. He just needed time to really grow up, like Alex was able to... I mean, who knew that Alex would be the surgeon, the doctor, and especially the man that he is now... George needed that, too.

He would have been there for Meredith when Derek was shot, when she almost died while having Baby Bailey, when Maggie showed up, when Derek died, and when she was attacked. He wasn't perfect and he knew it. He made mistakes personally and professionally and knew that, too, but he always tried to make things right... He didn't really have the chance to really become the doctor, the surgeon, and most importantly, the man that he was supposed to become. He had some more growing up to do... He was just finding his place in the world, his footing especially after his father died and Burke (who despite his flaws, saw something in George, was an advocate and a supporter for him), especially when Owen saw his natural ability to have his specialty be trauma... I wonder what could have been. I do not condone his cheating, but I think that in someways he was manipulated by Izzie who saw his venerability and used that to her advantage... and that saying of, "Just because you did a horrible thing, doesn't mean you're a horrible person" comes to mind and there are people who use that against him, but yet say Izzie and Alex forever, when he was part of that cheating and Alex cheated on Izzie.... and you have to think the same of ALL the other people who cheated and had affairs as well...

Izzie, on the other hand, just kind of blew things off and didn't always take responsibility for what she did and who she hurt: Alex, Callie, Meredith, Cristina, George... that being said... she needed more time to grow up, too... and I wonder what she is, where she is... if maybe she'll come back in some capacity.... if the she's all right, if she's maybe a OBGYN or a surgeon or a Medical Social Worker or a Patient Advocate (which I think that she might be better at) or if she just has a little shop somewhere for her baked goods and her knitted items. Hmmm..

I really don't know why the writers did that to both George (who did so much to help people, always tried to do the right thing, tried to be so mortal) and to a certain extent Izzie. They didn't give George a great story line (maybe he should have been the one to have gotten cancer or had him hit by the bus at the end of season 4 or the beginning of season 5 to watch him recover!) and hardly gave him any screen time in the first nine episodes of his last season.

Sadly for TR Knight(George) he got on Shonda's bad side after the incident with Isaiah Washington. Knight didn't think Shonda had his back and Shonda hated that she was forced to write Preston Burke off of the show.

If you noticed, George used to have some good storylines but after this, he fizzled with Izzie, had to go back to being an intern and he became Webber's lap dog.

Knight asked to leave, which I thought was stupid because he just signed a contract and he had 2 or 3 years left wrth millions of dollars. He left because of this tension with Shonda.

T.R. Knight is finally coming out about why he left “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The openly gay star says that he made his decision to leave the hit ABC show after executive producer Shonda Rhimes drastically cut his screen time: He appeared for just 48 minutes in the first nine episodes of season five.

“There just comes a time when it’s so clear that moving on is the best decision,” Knight says in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands tomorrow. The actor cites a “breakdown in communication” with Rhimes and says he asked to be let out of his $14 million contract three years early.

“My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about his character, George],” states Knight, who says George evolved into someone he didn’t understand or even respect (the character slept with his best friend, Izzie — played by Katherine Heigl — while he was married to Sara Ramirez’s character, Callie). Knight also resented his noticeable lack of screen time. “It didn’t seem like an ebb to me,” he says. “No other series regular’s character had ever disappeared like mine did this past season.”

But things first started going sour on set for Knight after the infamous “Isaiahgate” incident, in which then-cast member Isaiah Washington referred to him with an anti-gay slur during a heated conversation with co-star Patrick Dempsey. It took creator Rhimes three months to publicly condemn Washington, which Knight calls “frustrating.”

Shonda's wrath was strong against the George character.
