Confused, Why Does Catherine Seem To Own The Hospital

I thought it was the Grey-Sloan hospital and after the plane crash, they bought the hospital? But that was awhile back so I'm a bit fuzzy. But it seems like Catherine thinks *she* owns it, as if it were some sort of private hospital solely belonging to her. How does she think/act like she's got more authority than the chief (Bailey, as seen in the previews)? I guess I'm just a little confused by her role. I know the Avery name is pristigeous in the medicial field and that there was the award named after for the family. But what exactly is Catherine's role?

The Harper Avery Foundation put up the lions share of the money to buy the hospital. Everyones $15 mil each was not enough to cover buying it and the foundation put up the rest. Which is also why everyone was so upset that no one from that hospital would ever win a Harper Avery award because of the association to the hospital

The collective money that the doctors received from the lawsuit ($15 million each survivor, and Lexie's and Mark's that went to Mer and Callie) bankrupted the hospital, but wasn't enough to buy it when they found out Pegasus just wanted to liquidate the hospital assets and shut it down.

They were short somewhat less than $200 million. Derek and Richard went to meet with a billionaire to try to get him to invest. He was interested in the investment, but had no confidence in the doctors to administrate the business, so he passed.

Just when they thought all was lost, Richard talked to Catherine in bed about how he wasn't ready to retire, and she said the Harper Avery Foundation could put in the rest of the money -- if she could appoint Jackson as head of the Board.

So the Foundation owns about two-thirds of the hospital.

oh gosh that's messy! and really unfair, in my opinion. like i get that she put up the money and that's amazing, but she already is a very power-loving, controlling personality. having her have ultimate say over how the hospital runs just seems very :/ and not just because i love alex and i don't want her to fire him. i just think it's very messy to give one individual that much power over how the hospital runs - the hiring, the firing, etc.
