Not As Bad As It's Reputation

I didn't really see it when it came out but I watched this recently , and I have to say, I didn't hate the movie.

First off, think of any MCU movie. Now think of Spider-Man 3. Doesn't seem that bad now, does it?

Venom's origin story was told correctly, the only real difference from the comic was his physique. The new Venom movies are just complete regurgitated garbage. They are basically film versions of the absolutely terrible "Venom" comic series . They take the worst aspects of Venom, and make that into a film. Its got nothing to do with Dave Michelline or Todd McFarlane's creation.

This movie, even casting Eric Foreman as Brock, it's still closer to the ORIGINAL vision of Venom . Not just some gimmicky merchandise selling marketing gimmick. That's all "Venom : Enter The Carnage", or whatever it's called, is.

Fuck the MCU.

It's worse than its reputation. It's an awful film.

And Venom: Let There Be Carnage isn't? Have you ever seen THAT pile of garbage?

reply

I somehow ended up seeing both Venom films, both of which were absolutely terrible. I saw the first 20 minutes or so of Morbius, and it was awful, too. Madame Web, surprisingly, I found semi-enjoyable. It's far from great, but definitely a fun, easy watch. Yes despite all this, I hope the upcoming Kraven film will be good. The third Venom film, meanwhile, I won't bother to watch, for even someone as optimistic as me knows it's going to be a zero star film.

That's my whole point. We're not comparing the best films here, we're comparing the worst of the worst. Everyone knows Spider-Man 3 was bad, but comparing it to other terrible movies like the Venom series or other MCU bombs , it's not as bad. IT's like , what's the best apple out of a bad batch of apples.

I'd lump Spider-Man 3 in with the worst ones.

Excellent
1. Spider-Man: Homecoming
2. Spider-Man: Far From Home

Very Good
3. Spider-Man: No Way Home

Good
4. Spider-Man
5. Spider-Man 2

Not Good
6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
7. The Amazing Spider-Man

Bad
8. Spider-Man 3
9. Madame Web
10. Morbius (presumably-- it has to be better than Venom films?)
11. Venom

Absolute Garbage
12 Venom: Let There Be Carnage

If we're ranking Spider-Man movies, including the peripheral films, the only sane result is

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming
2. Spider-Man: Far From Home
3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (this one could be moved up to #2 if nostalgia trumps quality for the ranker)
4. Spider-Man
5. Spider-Man 2
6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
7. The Amazing Spider-Man
8. Spider-Man 3
9. Madame Web
10. Morbius (presumably-- it has to be better than Venom films?)
11. Venom
12 Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The fact that you put Homecoming at #1, or even on the list at all,

Nevermind, the fact that you even considered there are 10 good spiderman films to make a TOP 12 LIST, tells me we have completely different expecatations for the character.

Here's my list of Best Spider-man films:

1. Spider-man (1994) Animated Series (Enter the Green Goblin or Symbiote Saga)
2. Spider-man (2002)
3. Spider-man 2
4. Spider-man 3

The others don't even deserve to be on the list IMO. Shows how much I care for the MCU.

I took all the existing Spider-Man films, including the villain spin-offs, and ranked them. I didn't include any of the animated films or shows.

With regards to the MCU, if you dislike it, then I suppose you would dislike the MCU Spider-Man films. I think the first two MCU Spider-Man films are brilliant pieces of filmmaking on top of being the closest representation to the comic book Spider-Man that have been made to date.

The first two Raimi Spider-Man films are quite fun, but they are cliche-filled Hollywood superhero blockbuster films, and the only thing they have in common with their comic book source is the costume the hero wears. Put Maguire in a red costume and they instantly become Daredevil films. Make it blue and it's a Captain America film.

I was really put off by the Amazing Spider-man, doing things like Peter Parker skateboarding (never should have happened) so I never even watched anything with the new little kid Spider-man.

I've seen clips of him in the team-up movies. That little kid just gets on my nerves. He's like 13 years old and he's short, he sounds like a child not even a teenager to me. Physically, he looks like a twig. He's supposed to be a superhero with SUPERHUMAN strength and I can't see a single muscle on him.

His wisecracks just don't do anything for me. The sarcasm isn't strong enough , the wit isn't there for me. For me, he's like a Zillenial, Gen Z verson of Spider-man. That's why I hate him so much .

The costume. Ugh. Don't even get me started. Why change anything about the Spider-man costume?

These are nitpicky things I realize, but these are some of my criticisms of MCU as a whole and reasons why I don't like it. It's too kiddy for me.

I want a dark, mature Spider-man akin to McFarlane's legendary run on Amazing Spider-man (and maybe some early Ditko inspiration too) . Probably won't happen, but that's in my honest opinion the best version of Spider-man.
