Spider-Man 3 vs Amazing Spider-Man 2?

It's funny that both films more or less have the exact same flaws. Both films have jarring tonal shifts, are far too long and could've split up into two movies, too many villains with not enough focus on each, wasted potential with the villains, idiotic character decisions, and really stupid writing. Which is the better one?

I prefer Spider-Man 3 a lot more. While it's certainly flawed and easily the worst of the trilogy, it still has a lot of the charm that the first two had. Also, Maguire is much better as Peter Parker, and Sam Raimi is a way more interesting director than Marc Webb.

Spider-Man 3. Just don't mind the Venom scenes and it's quite an ok movie. Amazing 2 however is trash.

Spider-Man 3. Other than having too many dancing scenes and an underused Venom, it's actually quite underrated.

Amazing Spider-Man 2. I hate just about everything about Spider-Man 3. People hate on Amazing Spider-Man 2 and I will admit Electro was a bit silly but I felt he did work at times and so did his story which is more than I can say for Sand Man who was forcibly made into Uncle Ben's killer because Raimi....just likes every single villain to have a connection to Peter. I admit I can see why you'd do that with Doc Ock (and it goes without saying about Green Goblin since he is the father of Peter's best friend) but it makes zero sense to ruin the origin of the first movie so that Peter's Uncle still might have died even if he stopped the robber from escaping onto the elevator just because Raimi felt it would add more drama to the story.

Also I am in the minority liking the story of his parents. I frankly don't care that some fans hate it. I like that story both in the movie and in the original comics. Frankly I also will say Gwen Stacy is way better than Mary Jane in Spider-Man 2 and 3 in both the Amazing Spider-Man movies. Now thanks to Sony wanting to be as different as possible from the older films we will never have Mary Jane in the movies again. And no, his girlfriend who calls herself MJ is nothing like the MJ of the comics and I am not just talking about the fact she is African American. She does not have the personality of Mary Jane. Then again neither did Kirsten Dunst.

Spider-Man 3 had the makings for a good movie if they streamlined a few things. As awesome as Sandman was, his arc didn't fit the arcs of Peter, Harry, and Eddie. They all struggled with inner-demons in one form or another and they all either found redemption or rejected it. Sandman could've been saved for a future film and focus on these three. You have the first half of the movie with Peter vs Harry. You have Peter gradually losing himself and getting darker while Harry gradually finds himself and becomes more at peace. Meanwhile, you could have Eddie (recast as anyone but Topher Grace) getting more and more jealous of Peter. This culminates in the end of the second act where Harry gets disfigured, Peter abandons the symbiote, and Harry discovers Peter's true identity. In the third act, Venom is going after Peter, so he enlists the help of Harry who dies fighting Venom. Peter tries to reach out to Eddie but he rejects his offer and at the end, Eddie is captured (setting up a spin-off somewhere down the line).

Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a mess. Nothing made sense in that one.
