Who sends their kid to camp for SIX weeks??

I am a 50-something and I went to camp for 2 weeks and was never so happy to be back home.

I did have a great time once I got past the initial homesickness and making friends, but good grief, 6 weeks in summer seems a long time to be separated from your parents.

Or were Rosemary's parents too busy to spend any time with their daughter??

Then why bother to adopt the little Chinese baby?

"Hi! Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation. Their family stuck me pretty positively and like you said, why adopt the little Chinese baby if they didn't have their kids best interest? You're right, it's a bit insane, but there's more to it. I'm not judging because I don't have enough info.

It's pretty common for upper class families in America (or maybe just new york?) to send their children to summer camp for 1-2 months. They're supposedly fun and educational and stimulating.

I went for about 1 month in summer.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

I went to summer camp (2 months). There were lots of camps in the Catskills Mountain which was a few hours from the city. There were a few kids that could not handle it and had to leave.
