anyone else find this movie sad?

The ending was rather sad in my mind with her leaving and her not being in love with him...

The ending was sad, even if Gabe's parents ended up together.

Although Rosemary said she was not in love with him, she was absolutely starting to love him. Her age was the only factor in her mind to stop a better ending, probably.

the ending was sad, but i didnt really beleive in it. theyre nine blocks away- theyll see each other again. my girlfriend lives in another town and when she went to another school, i still saw her. the relationship is not dead. love finds a way

i dont think it was sad really. well I guess it was a little in that you do feel sorry for the boy. But he just expereinced something magical his first crush. I still remember my first crush its apart of who i am this character will have those same memories. It's i have been intrested in alot of women and when things don't go my way the first thing that came to mind was all the reasons why she wast perfect. but my first crush, i can only think postive things about her. Granted we never "hooked up" and we are both married now. I Can't tell you the last time i even talked to that girl but I sitll smile when I think about that time in the 5th grade when suddenly girls intresting. Do i feel bad that the cahracters of this film ended up seperated? yes I do but it is rare taht someone ends up being with there first crush. the ending potrayed this part of life very well. and though it was a little sad it was a perfect ending.
"put that in your pipe and smoke it! with your burned lips!"

Yeah I kinda found it sad as well. I realize the ending was mature and honest but I still found it upsetting since their relationship had barely gotten off the ground before it was shattered. I wanted to see a little more between them. In particular I wanted Rosemary to show a little more of herself. We never got to know what was truly going on in her head. The way Gabe muses about her in the end implies that she and him are done and they'll probably never see eachother again, which was upetting. My reaction was "That's it? Never again?"

I suppose the filmmakers did what they set out to do and the movie was indeed wonderful, but something more would have been nice. Maybe a kiss that wasn't so one-sided?

Then again they were 10 and 11, so maybe they went as far as they possibly could have at that age. Still, I would have liked to see some kind of epilogue with them running into each other years later.
