Great movie that didn't get the attention it deserved.

What a great movie!
Nothing is "little" about this movie at all.
Great script, flawless direction and visuals, awesome performances.
This movie is fun to watch and is also very effective emotionally.
Nothing but good words for it.

That surprise me the most, after I seen it, was here in imdb.
Not the comments that are mostly favorable, but the box office details.
According to imdb this movie made at its opening weekend:

$36,397 (USA) (2 October 2005) (2 Screens)

What?

We saw this movie back to back with that Aniston/Butler romantic flic.
Boy, oh boy! The bounty B.S. made over $20 mil. at its opening weekend.
I know, I know, there is nothing to compare here. These are 2 celebrity stars etc. etc. but, go ahead and give it a thought.
These are 2 movies about a boy & girl with strong feelings for each other (not to count boy's parents that their reunion is the happy ending here).
Little Manhattan doesn't fall short to visual fx for instance (how great is the editing or the skyscraper that turned into a pirate ship) compared to bounty hunter (on the contrary). Yet the 2 movies had great differences in their budgets and of course to the attention drawn by the public.

Anyway. This is a great movie to see. In the beginning it reminded me of "the wonder years" but it certainly has a character of its own.

I agree - a terrific film but it got released at a time where there were a bunch of children's films and they marketed it badly. A shame but I tell everyone to rent it on DVD!!!!

Fox screwed up with the release date. It's a summer movie that for some reason got mistaken for a family thanksgiving movie. Given how weak the summer of 2005 was, it could have made Fox a lot of money in the summer.

I agree with you.

This is a great movie that can be watched by the whole family; which can also spark a lot of great discussion afterwards. It may have uncomfortable moments for the kids (love, girls, etc) and also for adults and parents (being honest about relationships).

A lot of big issues packed into a movie aimed at kids. Not enough respect has been given to this one: especially considering this is a family flick that doesn't rely on special effects or a "saving the world" premise. It's real issues which plague kids and grown-ups alike.
