No children who live in this neighborhood attend public school. The public schools in NYC are not integrated - there are no white kids at the school in this movie. The boy's parents are millionaires - the apt is worth about 2.5 Million - a pre-war, two bedroom, doorman building with EIK on West End!

Not true - I attended an integrated school on the East Side with students similar to these kids. And I do believe some of their parents believed in the public school system - think the rest of them were being frugal. Personally I was a leftover from the Astor program and continued to commute to Yorkville from Washington Heights to continue in the I.G.C. program. Like Rosemary, I and many of my classmates eventually took the ERB test and went to private school after elementary school.
