I must be psycho, becuase I expected more gore...

After hearing how notorious and shocking this movie was I was expecting more gore and on screen voilence. I mean I can understand how this movie is "shocking" and "disturbing" just by the first few minutes, but I was expecting more onscreen voilence. I feel they focused more on the prostitutes and nudity, don't get me wrong, its still a fuqed up movie, and I get what its trying to do, but as a gore fan I was expecting more.

Heres to hoping Mordum and Pennance deliver on that front.

I felt the exact same way after finally watching this film. I'm a huge horror fan, more retro slasher gore stuff than traditional. I still really enjoy movies like Phantasm and old Vincent Price stuff though. Anyway, a friend of mine who showed me the Guinea Pig series recommended this one. I actually really enjoyed the Guinea Pig series. A few of the movies were really interesting, but some like, 'Flowers of Flesh and Blood' were grotesque. Which I actually enjoyed on some level. I mean the special effects in that one were almost untouchable.
I started to get bored with the horror genre in general so I decided to try and watch the most brutal movies I could find. I really wanted to get this series, but I wasn't sure if it would live up to it's reputation. I ended up streaming it off of a movie site about a month back. It was an ultra trash film. Brilliant in it's concept though. I mean if you just found the DVD laying on the ground and decided to check it out, you would most likely think you just found some serial killers home movie. As to the gore factor, I too thought this film was lacking. I should mention that it was pretty disturbing though.
I plan on checking out the sequels at some point. Like you, I too hope they live up there reputation. To be fair, I should mention that the average horror film viewer would find this movie repulsive, whereas seasoned horror fans would most likely be as unimpressed as you and the others that commented on this were.
