AU - do you feel more human?

Hello :)

I did not see AU "trilogy" (what a nice word for such a horrible and twisted - as I can assume from your opinions - ... trilogy! And "movie"! Another nice word! :DD Ooops I almost threw up while laughing, ok... I swallowed it, sorry guys =]). And I am not going to. Also, I am not going to cry: "Oh, c'mon! How can you people watch this? What is wrong with you?" etc. I have seen some footage from the Second World War showing polish and jewish people tortured and killed in Concentration Camps by Germans and I have seen some blurred jpgs from Guantanamo in newspapers around the world. Everyday we face the truth: the world is full of sick people who dive in pleasure of killing and torturing other people. When it has sexual background (as it definitely had in Abu-Ghraib) it is even more horrible. So I suppose I can imagine what AU has to offer and I am not interested.
However...I have a question for you AU-Fanboys'n'girls:
Do you watch this kind of footage (I would never go too far and call it "cinema" or "movie", duh...) to feel more "good"? To realize that you are not "that bad" etc.? Seriously, because I am not able to find any reason to watch 70-90 minutes of pure pain, blood, humilation, rape etc. What is so special about this kind of footage, or maybe what is so special about you guys that you can watch this? Serious answers, guys! No "Oh, I simply enjoy it!" bullsh*t, please:)

Hello trentee.

Do you watch horror movies? If you do, and if you enjoy them. You have your answer. This is just an extreme horror movie that is made to look like a pseudo-snuff film. Nothing more nothing less. There really is no deeper meanings, it's ONLY a movie.

What you read about something online, and actually watching something aren't even in the same ballpark. Without any real frame of reference how can you possibly perceive what it really is? I highly recommend you track down August Underground or the much sicker\perverse\deranged sequel MORDUM and see for yourself.

what is so special about you guys that you can watch this?

You're looking too far into this. There is nothing special about us or different from anyone else except it's likely we have already seen basically everything already and nothing shocks us anymore. Some of us might be sick of predicable, formulaic happy-ending popcorn-Hollywood BS. Why not? Whatever helps you sleep at night dude.

I as a fan of horror, including extreme horror, its not easy to shock me, which is basically what makes me watch this type of movie...Im always looking to see what can be done on film to go to the next level and make me think, wow this is pretty *beep* up...Some of these extreme films are fun to watch, but some, such as Mordum, are not fun to watch IMO.

Its just there to *beep* with your head and make you think how horrible soem people really are.

And there is nothing special about anyone who watches exteme and gore films, well, at least watching these movues doesnt make them that way, its just a matter of preference, nothing makes you special for disliking these films, its just that you dont like them...fans ofit are no different than you outside of movie preferences.

Also, idk why you would look at ACTUAL torture and murder if you wouldnt watch a FAKE movie.

"There really is no deeper meanings, it's ONLY a movie."

But it isn't. The August Underground trilogy is not just a bunch of violent stuff smashed together with some filler, on a whole it is a very powerful, very haunting series. Check out my reviews (anyone, not you in particular), at www.angrymidget.net/Movies/Horror/Exploitation/-Exploitation.html The spoilers are clearly marked, I suggest you stay away from them if you haven't seen it, and have the intention to see the films.

As Sepsism said though, there's nothing special about us, we just enjoy different types of movies than most people. I do not watch the August Underground films to feel good about myself, I watch them because they're entertaining and fantastic films.

"i always skip is the penis cutting in mordum as any man would lol"

I have a penis, and I still watch that scene in its entirety every time I view the movie. Why is it so horrifying to you? Shouldn't be any worse than a girl watching the adultery punishment in Cannibal Holocaust. It can't hurt you.

You can't argue with my logic! Well, you can, but I won't listen!

True that midget, but I was meaning in the way that it is NOT real, it's fictional (although highly realistic).

Well, the "there really is no deeper meaning" left me to assume otherwise. But yes, the trilogy is 100% fiction, and the films are not dangerous unless someone who is already extremely mentally unstable is subjected to them, but that person would've snapped at some other time without these films.

The same reason I watch any and all horror. To be scarred, horrified, revolted, sickened, etc. Also I guess I do it to feel a kind of rush. Seeing as I have no other vice's it's my way of feeling 'naughty', striking back at authority, standing up to the man, all that stuff.

It's where the appeal in those advertisements comes from - 'fully uncut, banned in X number of countries, the movie they didn't want you to see, etc'. It appeals to me because it's something I'm not suppose to see, something that people don't want me to see. It creates a taboo aura which is compelling and makes me want to see it more. If violence/sexuality in movies was of no concern to anyone and there was no censorship then it would loose much of it's appeal.

That's why giving harsher ratings to movies which depict smoking is stupid. Kids don't do it because it is glamorized in film, they do it because it is glorified by authority figures (parents, teachers, government, etc). All they're doing it is making it more enticing and forbidden.

Simple answer: THE FX are amazing and these films are actually funny on a very dark, twisted level.

ok, after reading the past comments i can see my response is going to be a bit different.

Let me start off saying i've seen a lot of "the most disturbing movies ever" including many of the real death shockumentarys. I've seen the first 2 AU flicks.

I HATED THEM

at first i lashed out like so many and said "they're garbage, this guy sucks, etc."

But then i realized that my repulsion was just what the filmmakers intended and i now regard these films as excellent works of art. Yes, ART. No where in the world does it say that art has to be pretty or make you feel good. So much great art (paintings, films, etc.) do not leave you feeling warm inside. That is not there intention. Now i could write a hole paper on the difference between 'why is this art but some kid playing with a camera not' but i wont. The point is these movies succeed brilliantly at repulsing and sickening most people.

Most people do not enjoy this trilogy per se, but they find themselves watching it to repulse them. I myself find myself wanting to watch the entire trilogy again now just to see if they will have the same effect as when i first saw them back when i was just getting into horror, not even the real repulsive stuff. As i said, i've watched many shockumentary death flicks such as Faces of Death (yes, i know a lot of that isnt real) and i do still get repulsed at the stuff.

THE REASON I WATCH THIS STUFF IS TO REMIND MYSELF OF MY OWN MORTALITY. I think that if people can handle it, they should watch one of these 'disturbing movies' because it makes you apprieciate your life and the beauty of the world better. After all how can you experience true beauty and love when you havent seen absolute horror/hate? Some may disagree and thats fine, not everyone is strong enough to watch this and no one should be forced to. But people need to remember they are not invincible and there is a higher force than them.

Kudos to whoever read that in its entirety, I know its long winded and theres probably some holes still in it but overall it sums up many of our stances i believe.

one more thing:

Humanity has always been fascinated with death.
-Public executions have been commonplace from biblical times to the 1900's and still take place in many countrys.
-The romans held mass specatcles of death in their colloseums where it was reported that there were lakes of blood at times from all the animals and men killed.
-The Grand Guignol in france portrayed realistic depictions of murder and rape in front of sold out audiences for years.

In todays society most of us dont watch real death but almost every movie made shows a death. R rated films are proven to be the most profitable films. Billions of gallons of blood have been shed on movie screens and America loves it.

Its all the same thing.
