Joe and Allison alcoholics?

On series 6 Joe and Allison are pretty much swigging away on beer every episode. All I can assume is that it's product placement, but it goes on so often they look like they have a drinking problem.

Oh come on! Are you serious with this? Having a couple of beers at night --- especially of you're Allison freakin' Dubois with dead people in your head all the time --- does not equal alcoholic. Geez.

Let me guess: You never, ever touch the stuff yourself so anyone who does must automatically be a drunk, right?

I'm an alcoholic, so I recognize the signs. A couple of beers at night becomes a couple of beers every night, which becomes a few beers every night, and then the night stretches into the morning.

If everyone who drank alcohol was an alcoholic, then the entire mankind would be alcoholic :))

Enjoying a beer every now and then doesn't make you an alcoholic. Have you ever seen Allison or Joe drunk? No. Have they ever spent a night drinking beer after beer? No. Has alcohol ever affected their personal or professional lives in any way? No. They don't have a drinking problem, they're just a normal couple in a functional family and they're mature enough to know when to stop drinking.

dead thread but for whoever reads this in the future - an alcoholic is not someone who is drunk all the time. It's someone who drinks every day. They MUST drink every day.

I was wondering about the alcohol problems before and as for the "has ghosts in her head" Alison did mention that when she was younger she drank constantly to get them to go away.

I believe Allison actually drank more in the earlier episodes. I think the alcohol was to quiet the voices, which she eventually began to embrace. Same reason her brother drinks so much.

I dont think its a stupid question, i dont identify as alcoholic but i have had drinking issues in the past that landed me in AA, so ive seen a lot.

I always thought, allison in particular more than joe, had the potential to become an alcoholic. She drank ocassionally to drown out the things she saw, making it a bit of a 'solution' to a problem. Theres a fine line between normal and abnormal drinking and its all to do with the thinking.

I dont think either were alcoholic but it wouldnt have surprised me in the slightest if they'd written that in at some point. And clearly, allisons brother did have issues and his drinking did effect his life at times.

no they werent alcoholics, 1 beer a night and i bet it wasnt even every night.... not like the got smashed every night.

The couple alcoholics I've know didn't drink a couple beers a night. It was a case of beer over the day starting with a six pack right out of bed.

You can drink wine or beer everyday without being an alcoholic. You need to know when enough is enough that's it. Also there are times to drink, alcoholics start often in the morning and srink all day long and at night as well. Other people can drink with their lunch and /or dinner that's it...
