But wasn't it really a happy ending?

Love this show, just marathoned it for the first time after watching it's original run. Great characters, actors, storylines and a realistic yet also inspirational family....wonderful combination! So down to earth in terms of their life, finances etc but their marriage is a dream for someone like me (a realist not a romantic)...day to day life of two people that really love each other (I hope love like this exsists. I want it).

I cry everytime I see the last five minutes of the finale. It's gut wrenching, it's terrible. She only had 20 years with him but 41 years without him. However, he waited all that time for her so they can move on together. He reaffirms their love, and says they have an eternity ahead of them, together. We can assume that when their children die they'll be reunited with them. So...I mean it's actually a happy ending isn't it? For everyone who says the finale ruined the show for them?

Thank you, really glad I could help with your view of the finale, I know it really deeply affected some people! I truly believe it was meant as and it IS a happy ending, with what will be for them an inconsequential few years apart in the grand scheme of 'eternity'...I think that's why they did it. To show that even in tragedy, even with an early death, they would always be reunited in the afterlife she was so closely linked to. And it was a way for them to end the show in the afterlife, which was something Medium was based around but we never saw any of the characters in it. It gives more meaning to her being a 'medium'...the world she was connected to. There really IS an afterlife, a happy one, and she really was united with her love forever.

Well, it is sad but most people do not stay together all their years. My mother lost my father in the war in 1941 and she lived 56 years without him! People just go on and create another life for themselves, you can still remember the good times with your spouse. You don't stay with the longing for ever.
