haunted house with running water/baby crying

Just watched the epi where the married couple moves into a house and woman hears running water and baby crying. They accuse the hubby after she commits suicide.

I'm SO confused. They found a device in the attic with running water sounds to help people sleep. Then they say that the wife was really the bio daughter of the husband's father-- making them brother and sister. The father had two families.

Allison says the son really loved the wife(bio sister), but implies she did not love him-- that she sought him out.

I'm confused. What the daughter on the hunt for her brother to marry him and had some major plan to hurt the father? or did she always intend to commit suicide to hurt the son? who the heck put the device in the attic?

Was it really a suicide or did the father kill the woman to end the marriage knowing they were siblings?

I admit i was distracted during this epi.. but i didnt think i missed THAT much lol

I watched that one yesterday. I was just as confused as you. I'll admit that i'm doing housework too, so perhaps, this is one that we had to sit and pay attention to 100%. I thought the dad might have killed his daughter when he found out his bio children got married. At the end of the episode I had this vague feeling that perhaps the daughter was just crazy.....

Do you remember the name of the episode or which season it appeared in? I know of a website that details episodic television series. I might be able to find the answer about this episode. I've tried doing a search with haunted house, running water and baby crying and got nothing. So looking at the season it appeared or the title of the episode would certainly help find the answers. 

I know this is a little late but it was Season 4 - Episode 16 "Drowned World".

I was just as confused with this episode as everyone else on this thread, lol, so hopefully someone can come up with an answer.

Apathy on the rise; no one cares.

That was a very busy episode that had a lot going on. You had the Joe thing with guest star Kelly Preston as Megan, who takes Joe's invention. Devalos and Allison lose their jobs when Manny loses the election to Van Dyke. There is an issue with Scanlon and Allison their relationship becomes strained (although I don't remember why). Allison's "gift" gets exposed and she gets crazy attention from people, neighbors and the media. But, the attention brings Cynthia Keener (played by Anjelica Huston) who hires Allison to investigate her daughter's disappearance and murder, during that investigation another girl disappears in the same manner. Cynthia has a lot of doubt with Allison’s gifts but she still hires her privately anyway. Cynthia Keener kills the person who murdered her daughter and then calls the police herself and turns herself in. Joe's parents come to visit, his mom (played by Kathy Baker) thinks her son and family's life is crazy. And we learn more about Allison earlier years. The young Allison is played by Jennifer Lawrence. A sense of order is restored for Allison when the new District Attorney, Van Dyke, steps down when he is given a few months to live due to cancer. Manny returns to the office. Allison gets her job back at the District Attorney's office and the relationship between her and Scanlon is mended.

As for her visions, it was about driving someone who was a bit unstable, to commit suicide to get rid of a small problem. The incest thing.

On a side note, this was a short season with only 16 episodes because of the writers’ strike. I don’t know why they packed so much stuff into one episode. I’m not sure if they were trying to close out some storylines to end the season.

I just re-watched this episode again, and its still not clear who put that machine in the attic. It wasn't put there by Charles so, it had to be their father who put that there because he knew the history and Kelly knew who the baby was all along and the history of the house. I think she want to destroy his life. Telling his son and wife would definitely end his marriage and whatever relationship with his son. I think that was the outcome she wanted for her father. It was never about Charles.

Yeah, that episode was really confusing. Along with the snow episode in Season 3 "No One to Watch over Me". If I remember correctly, your assessment is correct. The woman wanted to frame her husband.
