There is a bit, when he's challenged to the race at the start and when he first arrives at the course and they're reluctant to let him race. It's quite nice, though, that he only meets likeable and helpful people.

There was some conflict but overall, I think he was charming and foreign enough to disarm conflict. I just watched it for the first time, I remember that I wanted to see it when it came out.
