where was the dog?

Jason Patric character had Rufus go get his dog and give it to that lady, I presume was his mother. Was the dog left by the body or just left in the trashed apartment?

I think the dog was in his car.

that was likely left for our interpretation. i thought the woman may have been a mother, landlady, etc. i was glad they at least ended the dog's character with some closure, albeit up in the air somewhat.
BTW, remember the dog's name?

The dog was named Walnut.
