A formal response to anyone who defends this terrible movie.....
There are many reasons why the film "88 Minutes" is comparable to wet, steaming dog crap. From the complete lack of reality, to the complete lack of charactor development, the corny acting, and the ridiculous ending. These are just a few of many things I hated about this film, but I dont feel like writting all day.
We will first off start with the lack of reality, which always will have the rebuttal "well it is a movie" argument. Pacino never once tries to ensure his safety by bringing police or some form of protection to his aid. Even when the FBI agent hears him mention the threat he does nothing to protect him. Pacino not only fails to protect his life but also endangers Kim by bringing her along, as well as Lauren when he has her sent to his apartment after she had already supposedly been attacked once. Any real person would have called 911 the minutes they received that call, let alone someone who has the kind of connections that Pacinos character is supposed to have. And then there is the fire truck flying into helpless bystanders. Or the fact that Pacino has a gun fight in his apartment leaving one man dead yet is never questioned nor acknowledged. Or the fact that a convict condemned to death would be given a live interview hours before his death (then have a news anchor be the first to announce the fact that your death penalty is on hold).
Now on to the absence of character development....... The movie relied so heavily on little one liners just so you could understand why each person was in the movie. If you didnt pay attention to the smallest details you would be completely lost. The movie didnt even allow you to guess who the killer could possibly be because everyone was treated like a suspect. It was almost comedic at a point. The one male student had visited Forrester 4 times, and drove a motorcycle. The girls ex boyfriend was crazy and had a jail record at the pen that held Forrester. Kim had a gun in her purse and happened to be in the garage when his car gets vandalized. The door man at the apt. place is creepy. The campus police officer is creepy. Shelly allowed someone to access his safe. It was so silly. Then there was the scene where the FBI agent freaks out on Pacino telling him he thinks hes a killer. Or the fact that the young FBI agent has such a strong introduction in his scene and then ceased to make another appearance in the film....... What a bunch of horse crap. Nothing is ever explained past the surface. You never learn of any motives or get to understand any characters past, all you get is poor written dialogue jammed down your throat.
The acting and ending I dont even have to get in to........ What a terrible script. The only movie goers that would enjoy this are the platonic simpletons responsible for the reality tv era. It is a movie that is made for people who dont ask questions, people who dont attempt to figure out who the killer is in a movie, people who just sit back and allow their brains to go to sleep while a HD TV stimulates their opticals.
