Once again I have to ask: are there different cuts of this movie around? I own the Scandinavian Blu-ray, and it is ca. 3½ minutes longer than the U.S. Blu-ray. Perhaps they used the "alternate ending" in the Scandinavian one?
How do the two endings on the U.S. disc differ from each other?
The original ending I saw, ended with Pacino's character slow-mo throwing the phone away, a few knowing glances and some kite-flying flashbacks and thats it.
The alternate ending I just watched on the UK edition of the dvd was the same except carrying on after that with a laborious lecture on grief and justice including an intimation from Pacino's character that he coached the first witness because he believed so resolutely in Jon Forster's guilt.
They were both bad endings but the original was less so I guess.

That's how the Scandinavian release ends, too. There is no lecture at the end. So there must be differences elsewhere.
