The taxi and one more spoiler question

Why did he want to drive the taxi himself? Was there any reason for that?

Second question
At the climax of the film, Dr Gramm thinks back and we see short flashbacks of things Lauren did. There is a scene where she walks into an appartment and kisses another girl. We see that the rope, she uses to tie her victims up, is lying by the door. Is that other girl Sarah Pollard.

reply

Yeah I could never figure out why he wanted to drive the taxi either.

I'm pretty sure of the answer to your second question. I think the other girl is Shelly (Amy Brenneman) who portrays Al Pacino's secretary and she does mention that she is a lesbian.

reply

I think the taxi thing was an attempt to show his state of mind.
A man who has been threatened to be killed in 88 minutes is willing to do anything to avoid it.
He is also willing to pay a taxi driver $100 to drive the taxi himself.
I just do not see any reason for him to drive it himself. He would have accomplished the same thing if the driver drove.

reply

I think driving helped him think. He did that in a scene earlier in the film when leaving the university, too.

And I think you're right; that other girl is Sarah Pollard.

reply

I was more confused by the Taxi driver being willing to part with his cab for $100. Is that it? He could never see that cab again and he wouldn't have a leg to stand on if the cab company sacked him.

Actually, the cab driver's story would have made a more interesting movie...

Cab driver never left his cab. He was in the backseat in the first ride, and is shown telling Pacino for another 100 he'd wait for him.

reply

Remember time was ticking away, he needed to get to all these places to put the clues together asap. Sure he could've told the taxi driver to drive fast but i doubt he would've drove as fast as gramm did.

There was no reason, except for him being at the helm (heehee!)

It shows what kind of guy he is: Get a life threat? Go chasing the clues that obvious push you in a certain direction. Better not report to the police and resolve to their professional abilities.

For the girl: It doesn't really matter who it is (though I don't think it is Shelley) just that she is a victim.
