Wow, they weren't very subtle on that one...

Oddly it makes sense because she had just lent him her cell phone so in order to reach her he could call her on the blackberry as opposed to a land line
shareI was referring to the product placement.

...just not the people on its board
Yeah, there were a few of those.
"Can you turn on MSNBC?"
"No, I'm driving."
"That's okay, they simulcast it on AM 790."
"Oh good. I'll just tune to THE SIMULCAST OF MSNBC ON AM 790, WHERE I CAN GET ALL OF MY FAVORITE MSNBC SHOWS WHILE I'M DRIVING."
"ALL OF YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS. THAT INCLUDES KEITH OLBERMAN, RACHEL MADDOW, AND EVEN THAT PRISON SHOW THAT'S ON SEVEN NIGHTS A WEEK."
"Boy Jack, sure glad you told me about this. Now I can get MSNBC ANYWHERE, ANYTIME!"
"Don't forget to visit WWW.MSNBC.COM. You can vote in our online poll!"
"WWW.MSNBC.COM. Got it!"
No, it doesn't make sense. She's a student walking around with a cell phone AND a Blackberry AND a gun. What else is there in her magic purse?
shareShe has explained why she has a gun, and I think you don't find it odd that she has a cell phone.
A Blackberry is a bit "more" than that Nokia she gave to Pacino. Besides, I know dozen's of people who use two phones: one private, one for work. And I've been in a country where they even have more than two phones: one for each telecom-company, so they can say to people:
- Call me on -123456789
* What's the prefix code then? 012, 013, 014, or 015?
- Doesn't matter, I have them all
(so they pay lots of many to own 012-123456789, 013-123456789, 014-123456789, and 015-123456789. I found that ridiculous, but I wanted it to say anyway)
About the Porsche: I know some professors (who are payed a lot less, looking at Pacino's apartment) who drive a Mercedes S600 (I think I know three of those profs), Audi A8, Audi R8, and yes even an Porche 911 and Cayenne Turbo.
And about Apple: Those laptops are very popular in universities, especially when you see that that university in the movie wasn't very poor...
haha I don't know why you would stick up for this movie. Unless "Artnaz" is actually Al Pacino. The movie is terrible from start to finish. Give it up! haha
shareI wish I was him! :D
I'm sticking up for the movie because I hate it when people look at some minor flaws and use that as an argument why a movie is "terrible".
If we were talking about the Godfather (for example), than you can discuss every flaw. That's interesting, since the movie is extremely good and you need to be critical. So you need to to look deeper to be able to say something negative.
This movie is not "a" Godfather. It's good, but nowhere near ingenious (as is the Godfather). Minor flaws here are far less important. And as I said, such minor flaws do not make a movie "horrible".
Movies are art, it's not about making it technically perfect. Same thing with music: for example, Bob Dylan is absolutely not the best guitar player or singer, but it's not about that, it's about his great music. Dream Theatre has insanely technical, perfectly played stuff. But that doesn't mean their music is brilliant.
I don't like Dylan nor Dream Theatre, but that's not the point! =P
Anyway, if all of you didn't like this movie, what would be A Righteous Kill then? Worst home video ever?
Pacino cruising around in a 911 was a bit of a pathetic plug, I thought.
shareyoure right he should have walked, because it is so unrealistyic of him to be in a vehicle. especially one with a brand.
i hate when people complain about product placement like its meant to be this secret thing pushing people to purchase cars or smoke cigarettes or whatever else. of course there is product placement, it makes money for the film, but theres product placement in everyday life everwhere, so really, it is pretty realistic. try going one entire day without being exposed to an advertisement. also, who cares.
I don't remember the last professor I knew who drove a 911. It was referred to repeatedly, unnecessarily, by name. It was no secret, since it was so obviously out of place.
"product placement in everyday life everywhere, so really, it is pretty realistic"
Yeh, that's so true - only today I got paid to drive a Porsche, and I have just started carrying my complimentary Blackberry around as well as my phone.
The point is this film was purely a commercial enterprise with no other redeeming features. I care; as does everyone else who posted on this board.
Who cares about product placements in movies? All you artsy-fartsy intellectuals always make too big a deal out of this. Even the greatest movies in history have had product placements in them. For instance, Citizen Kane advertised snowsleds and newspapers. North By Northwest: trains and airplanes. Chinatown: water. Star Wars: lightsabers and all the other Star Wars-related merchandise the film gave rise to. I don't remember anyone complaining about that . . .
sharehas anyone noticed all the macintrash laptops? macs and dells seems to plug themselves everywhere lately. this forceful advertising in movies is one reason why i dont buy movies anymore.
shareso its been a while since ive been on imdb, but i see someone pointed out my "stupidity"
let me say, youre entirely right. movies would be so much better if everyone was super poor and could only ride brandless bikes and talk on pay phones in them. much more realism in that. nobody i know has a blackberry or drives an expensive car. no way man. thats some rich people stuff.
oh wait im sorry actually most of them do.
I don't really care about it or even notice it most of the time. Movies need some product placement or else where would all the money come from?
But if it gets to the point where I am able to easily point out everytime there is a product placement, it's very annoying. You feel more like you're watching a commercial rather than an actual movie. Too much product placement in a movie is obnoxious and most of the time it's not needed.
The crazy thing about it all is when you think about it like this; why in the living love of HELL would you want your product tied to THIS friggin movie?
I mean, it's not like it promotes the quality of your product when you relate it to 88 Minutes.
It's almost like saying, "when you think of 88 Minutes (crap), think of our product!"
"Step right up and buy some crap!" :)

I thought it was weird to have a cell phone and a blackberry at the same time considering you can make calls with a blackberry. What's the point of having to pay for the same service twice?
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
Maybe ahe has (2) prepaid card(s) in them. Wouldn't pay anything but calling costs.
The fun part is: this thread makes BlackBerry stand out more then it ever was in the movie. I think it was a legit remark to "call on my blackberry". She is an assistent to Gramm, maybe she has her Blackberry number listed in contacts. She would know, cause it is her cellphone he lends, casuing her to fallback to her Blackberry. Don't remember who started this crap thread, but surely the OP is plugging for blackberry.
