Good point. The fact that the Marvel universe and the DC universe are two separate things isn't a factor here since Locke only "used to read comic books."
He never specifies whether he read Marvel or DC. Also, being that he was a boy in the 1950s, the fact that Marvel comics wouldn't start publishing for another decade means that his teenaged mom wouldn't have even thought of making an issue of whether or not his comic books were 'Iron Man Comics'.
