Oscar
I think that at least the girl acting Jeliza-Rose should have been NOMINATED for an oscar!
Long time since I saw this film, but I remember that that girl was extremely good to act to be in her age and as an actress.

Very happy to hear you say that; I think it may be the best child performance I've ever seen.
shareI must agree; Jodelle Ferland is so impressive in this role, considering the subject matter, etc. She was also chilling in Silent Hill as Sharon/Alessa.

She was mind blowing...
It has to be THE best child performance ever. Usually kids don't act, they say what they're made to say, they don't get it. This kid had incredible control and presence, was even at that age a far better actor than most of those pretty looking dummies in Hollywood.

I was more impressed by Dickens.
shareI thought she was brilliant as well. I saw this while making film festival rounds and I thought at the time Jodelle Ferland would be going places. I'm surprised she isn't in more things.
shareyou got that right - it is completely obvious (ok, perhaps after a few days) that Dickens was played way better than Jeffrey Goines in 12 Monkeys.
if Brad Pitt deserved a nomination to Oscar in a supporting role, why Brendan Fletcher didn't? yet another successful TG's provocation showing Academy Awards members' hypocrisy, that because this movie wouldn't go down their AA ("artistically arystocratic") throats, they would not take notice of anything at all worthy an award. but i'm quite happy it was so universally ignored - their refusal to take notice may be an indication they don't understand it, they wouldn't bother considering work of an US-born director who renounced his US citizenship, or they cannot watch it "forgetting about everything they learned as adults and watch like an innocent child". any of the them are sufficient to see how they are not very qualified to nominate or to vote.
even people who can watch this movie and understand its message are still so disturbed overall that they will miss "details" like that on day of posting the review. frankly, i don't blame them - right when i was starting to see that great performance while still watching, everything that happened afterwards blocked it out until i read your comment.
Yep, completely agree with you here - one rarely sees such a breathtaking performance by a young actress. And rarely in such a powerful film as well. Wonderful work!
