Such a fun movie
As a male in my mid-30s, I'm not exactly the target audience for this film. But I can't help but love it and have a lot of fun with it every time I watch it.
I still enjoying a good family film when it's well-made. I am reminded of the joys of childhood and the kind of light, carefree mindset that accompanies being a kid, before you have to go crashing into the depressing realities of the real world.
Nim's Island captures that spirit perfectly. Breslin is excellent as the lead, Butler is perfect as her dad/the mythical Alex Rover, and Jodie Foster is just a total joy to watch.
I've probably watched this film five or six times and have even watched the straight-to-video sequel with Bindi Irwin, which was fairly good in its own right.
I'm surprised to see that the RT score for this film is only 51% and that the audience score is even lower at 46%. This film is much better than that.
