wow...

i was under the impression that alexandra rover and nim were going to have some type of adventure throughout the whole movie. but she doesnt arrive until the end...?
it was an okay film but i think the trailer misled us a little bit.

Jim: What's a TAM-POON?
Bob: IDK BUT THEY TASTE GOOD!

reply

I agree...it was a good movie...but quite a bit different than what I remember the trailer portraying...they kept building it up as "I've got to help this little girl" and in the end, she really didn't help her at all except for consoling Nim for a few minutes....

You keep a stun gun in the birdhouse? Whats under the garden gnome, an M80?

reply

That's because Alex Rover tricked alexandra.
it wasn't about saving the girl, it was about saving herself
...and find his pension

Well, I've just bought the dvd for a ten year old girl (U.K.) I barely know. I hear she's pretty savvy and smart for her age - do you think it's the right age group - I didn't want to get anyhting pg rated and this has an open classification. I s'pose I bought it on the strength of Jodie Foster and the fact there is a young girl in it!

I think this will be great. It's about a strong girl, and one of the most beautiful fairy tales I've seen in a long time.

Yeah, it was stupid that Jodie's character didn't get to the island until the very VERY end of the film, which pissed me off, but the movie was still enjoyable and fun.

Cream cheese...

Jodie couldn't get to the island until the end because it would have messed up the symmetry of the three of them.

You had Nim alone on the island trying to cope with her fears and battling to save and protect the island and her home.

Alex was isolated and alone (in feeling) having to overcome various problems to help save a little girl.

Jack was alone on the boat trying to save his life and cope with one obstacle after another desperately trying to get back to his daughter.

It also needed to be at the end because it links in with the start of the film when Nim is telling the story of how her mother was lost at sea.

Her mother made up the name Nim. Alexandra made up the character Alex Rover. Nim says that her father told her about her mother in stories and that is all she is to her, stories. Alex Ryder is an fictional character in stories whom she loves to hear about as much as she does or did about her mother.
In the story at the beginning she says her mother went out to sea to look into the mouth of the great blue whale to see what was in the stomach of the big blue whale. A big ship called The Bucanner came up behind her and she panicked and the big blue whale swallowed the boat and took her into the deep blue sea.
Sadly Nim lost her mother and Jack his wife as they weren't able to find her.

The ship that brings the tourists to the island is called The Buccaneer the same as the one in that story. Alex was in a small boat, the Buccaneers lifeboat.
She got knocked overboard by the monsoon representing the big blue whale and was swallowed up by the sea.
This time however Nim was able to find her and save her unlike what Jack and her were able to do to her mother. So you could look at it as Nim was reclaiming back her mother from the sea and a wife for Jack.
Had Alex have just got there and had the adventure with Nim it would have meant that Nim and Jack never got to reclaim from the sea that had robbed them many years ago.
Hope that makes sense.
