Jodie Foster's character

I loved her... it wasn't what you expected, and that was really entertaining to me... who would've thought that the most popular action adventure novel in their time [equivalent, I'm sure, to JK Rowling for us] was written by an agoraphobic, complete opposite? I think it was a wonderful touch, even though her character was out of place a bit in the film, it was still a great character.

I agree. Foster was the best thing in the movie, IMO. I don't think Breslin and Butler were bad but they were let down by a poor script.

Pretty much what I wrote in my review. Jodie was great, Butler was fun and Breslin wasn't bad either, but the script... the script!?!?

No thanks.

I totally agree with sensei. I wanted to like this movie more than I did. In general I love both Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler. Abigail Breslin was good in both Signs and Little Miss Sunshine (the only other movies I've seen her in). Still, the script left me kind of empty. I hated the rather abrupt ending. I mean, did she give up writing for good and decide to live on the island?

I thought the ending was good- she continues to write (via internet) on an almost deserted island, full of adventures and romance, miles away from the world as she knew it...

When you put it like that, Silvaspoon, you make an interesting point. There is no REAL change in Foster's character: she's still isolating herself from the rest of the world and all the people in it. She's just exchanged her home-fort in SF for a larger version in the South Pacific. Just the thing for a recovering agoraphobic!

I am not a Frankenstein. I'm a Fronkensteen.

I don't know why but evertime I thought of Alexandra I kept thinking if Adrian Monk had sister this is what he would be related to. The funny thing about it is that both characters live in San Francisco so it wouldn't be hard to see that concept.

Her character got slightly untolerable at a few parts but other than that, yes, her character was awesome.

I laughed my ass off at how paranoid she was.

Jodie Foster rocks!

Cream cheese...

Jodie Foster's character strongly resembles the author played by Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone. Coincidence? I don't think so, even if it was a little "unconscious" borrowing by Wendy Orr when she wrote this book.
