While watching the movie i kept thinking that Nim's leg was going to get extremely worse towards the end of the movie. especially when she opens up the bandage and she looks to her sea lion and says that she's going to be fine and that they cant focus on her anyway because they have to save the island. After i saw this scene i was sure that her leg was going to get worse and put her in danger. But after that scene they never talk about her wound again.
yeah I kept wanting something to happen with that leg and after she told Fred to get his friends together it wasn't spoken again, but the bandage was still shown(but in so many different areas of her leg. In some parts throughout the movie the bandage was higher, then lower) They put a lot of emphasis on those imaginary friend characters Nim had(in the deleted scenes) and one of which being Long John Silver with a wooden leg(they could've done something like her thinking it would get so bad she'd have to be like him) I also liked the original rescue scene with the Whale that never made it in the final version. The leg thing was just something that got lost like the deleted scenes.
Ya i agree but i just got really confused by the end of the movie because i kept expecting that something bad was going to happen as a result of her injury and when it didnt it just seemed like it was completly forgotten by all those involved
Family movies require you to suspend your belief more than adult movies require guys. Just go with it and assume the wound healed and that she was able to find that particular plant that could cure it, lol. However, yes, it would have been nice if they acknowledged it, especially one of the main reasons Alex came is that Nim was INJURED and lost, but still, haha, I didn't really notice it too much to be honest.
Remember that Alex told her about a plant (complete with picture) that could be used as a poultice. Although they didn't show Nim using it, perhaps we are to surmise from that exchange that she did make the poultice and it helped her leg. She certainly wouldn't have be able to continue running around on it, if it was still "oozing puss." More than likely, she would have developed a fever (maybe eventually delerium) from the infection.
Or maybe Nim's island is like the one on LOST...it cures everything!
I thought it was a cool point, that Alexandra had forced herself to face all her worst fears traveling around the world to save a wounded child, only to find when she got there that Nim's leg was fine. Nim's real need was to have an adult there, and Alexandra's real journey was becoming an adult.
Haven't seen the movie, just reading what folks say/said about it. But I had to say this: If she's an 8 year old girl... uhmm... Eight year old's SEVERELY exaggerate their wounds! Did anyone see the wound? Or was it alluded to? My guess is, it was a scratch that scared the crap out of her because there was no adult around to tell her she was okay.
But I love what you said about this, Larue. This post is the one that makes me want to see it with my kids, even though they're 18 and 14. :D
I bet none of you know this, but in the beginning of the movie where you first see Nim on the sea lion you can see a bandage on her leg where she cut it.
Well, from the looks of the cut it was a pretty superficial scrape (no gushing blood, just a small amount of blood). Her description that puss was coming out had to be incorrect because puss takes several days to form. If it was as bad as she described it, she have had trouble walking let alone running around. She was probably confusing puss and the liquid that leaks out of a scab as it is forming (plasma).
