Biggest Hole in Plot..

I DID enjoy the film....

BUT....

Isn't there SOME kind of Coastal watch out in that area to notify when people are in communicado or missing?
If she had a computer , and so did Alex, why didn't either of them alert some naval rescue that her father wasn't in contact-- ESPECIALLY with 2 big storms and him in a tiny boat??????

Why didn't he give the pelican something to let Nim know he was still alive-- a piece of his shirt, etc.???

Also, and someone mentioned it as "the worse thing abot Nim's Island"-- the use of lizard's as little bombs-- animal cruelty here, that doesn't fit with the character of Nim, and not a real good example to set for kids watching it..

She didn't want anybody invading her island, or knowing that they were there..
If she'd called anyone they would of come on to the Island & as for the lizards all she wanted to do was prtect what was hers. Alright it wasn't nice but they were fine weren't they.

He had no shirt

The supply ship knew where the island was - they must have been in contact with them

yaa you are looking for plot holes in a movie where the man survives multiple storms, an agoraphobic jumps off from a ship (which even after being on full steam was pretty near the island!!) in a middle of a cyclone and survives etc. etc. etc. ... well it's supposed to be a fairy tale after all

reply

Yup, it's supposed to be a fairy tale, but it's not exactly LOTR. This tale has the internet. Why didn't they use WWW to notify Coast Guard (or anybody else) that Dad was in danger? I know, "Nim didn't want to reveal their secret location," so then you're going to let Dad hang in peril, just so their island is a secret? If the secret is a concern, why not notify the supply ship people?
And, if Alexandra was such an agoraphobe, you'd think she would call the Coast Guard instead of attempting such a major journey. Her hokey travel scenes made me go "oh brother"
Plus, a responsible parent would have left some emergency numbers with Nim, just in case a coconut falls on Dad's head, or if he gets stranded at sea.

I saw this today on cable for the first time and all I could think of was the father & daughter could have been together on that island & gotten hurt to the point of not being able to move and just lay there exposed to the elements helpless,in pain & dying.

I don't know what was supposed to be fun about a man going off leaving a child like that.
