Are Mealworms Safe to Eat?
Is it safe to eat mealworms? Nim and Alexandra Rover ate them, but I wouldn't want to do that.

shareMeal worms are a delicacy in many countries, so yes, they are safe to eat.
shareThey go good with White wine too
shareI saw Mike Rowe eat some pureed mealworms, on Dirty Jobs, at a boutique birdfood factory. They were raised in clean sawdust (the mealworms) and though he said "this is awful", they were OK for humans to eat, too.
share"Sawdust" is a common (and fair-enough) mistake.
It's Wheat Bran. One of several feed options.
They can feed on other things, such as Oats, but Wheat Bran is a cheap & common food that goes VERY far with mealies.
They're high in protein, and a great supplement food for lizards (amongst many others). You'll find them in some exotic lollipops, and I'm sure some people eat them on their own too. Personally, I'm not sure why people would eat them... Maybe the same reason the dog licks his... :D
ProTip: When not serving, place your mealies in the fridge, and they'll live for >2 months, as opposed to a ~2 weeks, before transforming into beetles.
I heard they taste like chicken!
What does this do?
I ate them once for $300 for a radio competition. Didn't taste too good, they were wriggling on my tongue and i could feel them squirming going down my throat.
You can watch the video of it here, it's hilarious
