The dad/ Alex Rover

Well, I know that this must sound stupid, but I had no idea until just know when I looked at the casting that the dad and Alex Rover were played by the same person. Anyone else?

Gerry looks different in each of his movies, the the point of being unrecognizable. Apparently, he looks that different even in the same movie.

reply

I noticed it, probably because I'm a fan of him!!!

reply

lol..i guessed, even though it wasnt really obvious.. it must have been the accent. And all that facial hair on Alex! :)

reply

Knew it going into seeing the movie...I am, after all, one of Gerry's Tarts, lol. Love anything he is in!

reply

S'pose it kind of makes sense that Alex Rover and the Dad might be in some way the same person, even if just through casting, as Nim seemed to be view her Dad as trailblazing and bordering on heroic, so that would give her some raw material for visualising the story hero.

I didn't realise a) that it was Gerard Butler, nor b) that it was Gerard Butler, either ... but then again I even said "I don't think so" when my wife asked if the writer was Jodi Foster!

Reminded me of the recent Peter Pan movie when Hook and the Dad were played by the same bloke.

I had no idea that it was the same actor. I'd only see Butler in PS I love you before though. I love actors who can get so in to a role that they just disapear into their character.

Oh, Miss Alana, you are in for hours of good films with Gerry Butler in them.
Well, some of the films may not be the greatest, but Gerry is.

I suggest you see his films in the following order, so you can see how remarkable he is in becoming a unique character in each movie:

"Phantom of the Opera", "Dear Frankie", "Attila", "Beowulf & Grendel", "300", "The Jury", "Timeline", "Miracle Match" (aka "The Game of Their Livesz'), "Shattered" (aka "Butterfly on a Wheel"), "PS, I Love You" (again), the parts of "Lara Croft II" that show Gerry's character, "Dracula 2000" and "Reign of Fire".

Then, visit any of his fan sites that have a multitude of Gerry's various interviews to see, and you'll be amazed how different he is from most of the men he's portrayed.

Have fun!

So true. I just saw him for the first time today (2015-01-02) in Olympus Has Fallen and he's unbelievably fantastic dynamite, electrifying every scene just by BEING in it; kinda reminds me of Mel Gibson . WOW! Bummer getting hooked on someone like that since now I'll have to spend WEEKS seeing everything he's ever done! It's a crime he's not a husband and dad, just thinking of the lady and kids he would bless by his presence, though one can never be sure of what goes on behind the mask.

reply

Uh, I think they call that "acting" or something, right??

reply

Another one of his tart's here! How could anyone NOT love him?! He's so talented and versatile. And it doesn't hurt that he is totally and completely gorgeous! And that accent! Whew!!

reply

I was not completely sure if it was Gerry playing the dad or not- until the credits of course, it was something about his face that made me think 'Hey, that's Gerry!!'. I love the films I've seen of him in! He's a brilliant actor. So, I guess I sorta noticed it was him playing both parts.

reply

Really? I recognized him immediately from 300. It's in his eyes.

reply

I think he is so good at playing like as a imaginary friend or being imaginary as he did that in some parts of PS I love you and Nim's Island!!!

reply

You're not stupid! My two daughter's and I went to the movies on Saturday and watched Nim's Island. Afterwards I was reading here about the movie. I had no idea the dad had a duel role! HA! I didn't know he was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera either. I really like him (haven't seen him in anything else other than these two movies). Great family movie!

reply

I didnt either until I came on here. He is such a good actor and so very handsome. I love Phantom of the Opera :)

..I was wondering...Why I'm so lucky. Why I should find you waiting for me to come along.

I recognized Butler as Nim's dad, and admittedly it took a few minutes for me to notice Butler portraying Alex Rover. And I get why Nim pictures her dad as Alex Rover when she reads the books, he's her hero not to mention nearly the only male she knows. But what I don't understand is why Alexandra the writer imagines Alex Rover to look like Jack Rusoe. Did they elude to the fact that she follows his work?
