To be fair, I thought all of the female characters in this manga were a little bit underdeveloped. That's not to say they were badly written, just thought that their backgrounds should've been explored more clearly (well, maybe not Tsunade or Kushina, but the rest of them, definitely).

Scrolled through that thread earlier. The defenses (i.e. well naruto's bond with sasuke was retardedly obsessive as well! or 'Kishi never said Sakura was the female lead) are a bit humorous to say the least.

I agree. I never liked Sakura very much and then she finally became pretty badass in the first arc of Shippuden... only to end up being uninteresting again and not doing much stuff for the rest of the show (other than healing people and hilariously trying to fight Sasuke).
I must say that I think this is a common problem for Shippuden, which has disappointed me on that level a bit. Other than Shikamaru's team, the other two teams are hardly really used or developped.
My only real problem with the manga as a whole, was that it had too many subplots and way too many villains. If it weren't for the heavy overdosage of subplots, and Uchiha Clan history, we would've gotten more character development from the Konoha 11 (minus Team 7).
That said, I don't think Sakura was nearly as underdeveloped as most of the supporting characters, but maybe that's just me.

You pretty much nailed the problem with the manga. Too much everything.
My name is a killing word.
