Major annoyance/goof with the show Electronic Display in medieval Japan?

I have watched most of the original Anime and it stays consistently medieval. (Swords and Jitsus...no phones, guns, cars, etc) Yet during the Chuunin Prelims they have a display board that is obviously digital. It annoys me that they didn't have a drawing and use a paper board than using that gimmick. Really hurt the world for me. It doesn't make sense to have a digital/electronic display in a world where they still use candles for light.

It's not set during medieval times, so..... there ya go.

Nor is it set in Japan, but an alternate universe.
Cellphones do exist. The villain Gato used it in the Land of Waves Arc. And they also use electric light.
The only technology that does not appear are firearms and transportation (cars, planes, trains, etc.).
