Still disappointing but that is unavoidable

I watched this again for the first time since the big screen. I loved the graphic novel before it was a movie. I couldn't place my finger on why it all felt so shallow when I first watched it. For me, it's nothing in particular. Not the ending, nor the slow mo, etc. The movie simply cannot replicate the amazing depth and detail the graphic novel presents. It never could, it is a different medium. As I watched the second time, I even enjoyed it. Knowing it does not and could never hold a candle to its source material. Same way a "Moby Dick" movie will never possess the power that mammoth book does.

It doesn't help that Zack Snyder is quite obviously emotionally stunted and doesn't understand the nuances of the comic.

It's my favorite superhero flick ever -- the "Apocalypse Now" of comic book movies. And the ending with the giant octopus creature desperately needed changed.

I too was disappointed with this after seeing it in the theatre. But after watching it a few more times it has really grown on me.

Yes, there are a few Zack Snyder moments that it could have done without and no, it will never be as good as the source material, but I now think it's a rock solid movie and one of my favourite superhero movies.

The Director's Cut is the superior version in my opinion, though it does make for a pretty long film.

I thought it was pretty good for the most part. There are some scenes that are drawn out and I thought it was anti-climatic, but I still like this film. I do agree that the graphic novel is much better, but the literary material is almost always better than the cinematic.
