This movie could have been perfect by changing 3 things.
1- Carla Gugino should have played Laurie. Her look and age made more sense for the role. Akerman was too young and not the best actress.
2- While using Bob Dylan's "The times they are a-changing" was great for the opening credits, the movie used too many pop songs that made some scenes really cheesy: "The sound of silence" at the cemetary, "99 luftballons" when Laurie meets Dan at the cafe, "All along the watchtowers" when they arrive in Antarctica and "Hallelujah"
which made the already cringeworthy sex scene 10 times worse. These 4 could easily have been left out.
Movies should use pop songs with moderation. One or 2 songs at the right time can elevate a scene, but Snyder tried to force as many as he could and it had the opposite effect.
3- Hollis Mason's death scene should have stayed in the final cut of the movie.
