I don't like films where innocent people die in painful ways

but for a story with little emphasis focused on the lead characters it does quite well. I think that it is intentional that we dont get too carried away with character background because of the speed of the movie. The real star is the ship itself and the visual flair of wolfgang petersen. It's a fast moving claustrophobic fun film with a lot of action. mildly depressing though lol and certainly worthy of a higher score than currently at on imdb.

Do you hate this world too????

I don't think many people do like that, especially seeing it so dramatically but if it were eliminated from movies they would stray even farther from reality than they already do. There is no question it's not fun to watch but it's a part of everyday life and more so in a disaster.

It's not pleasant but like the last poster said, it's real life. In the case of this movie probably the closest thing to reality in the whole thing.

I thought you were talking about how "the map" died. Was that really necessary? lol

Disaster movies probably not your cup of tea, then.

Or horror films, or war movies. Well let's just say pretty much any movie really.

As a huge fan of disaster films, I can safely say that not many of them have sequences like the one in Poseidon, in which "the map" got kicked to his death. That was a pretty brutal moment, no matter how you spin it. I never saw it coming.

The thing that makes it disturbing is that it was not the catastrophe that killed that character. It was the decision if the people he was with, the people who were supposed to protect and help each other. Yet, considering the situation they were in you can understand Josh Lucas's character and why he said what he said to Nelson.

It was a very tough scene to watch, because both sides were right. The young guy wants to live and he screams for that. But if he doesn't let go another person will die as well.

Tough scene to watch, but a very memorable one. Props to the filmmakers for having the balls to include that in a summer popcorn movie.

I felt more for the ship in the 1972 movie than I did for this one. I did not see the movie, but from clips I did see about it being discussed, I was not impressed. Nothing can beat the captain's words in the 1972 version:" "The Poseidon is too fine a lady to be rushed to the junkyard on her last voyage". When you see the ship capsizing, you see this "fine lady" dying and it hurts. I don't think there was such a speech about the ship in this movie. Yes, they talked about it, but as an object.
