Depardieu is reading off cue cards in the end

The guy is obviously reading cue cards when he is the guest chef of Bird's restaurant at the end of the movie. He is looking straight at them before he says his lines. Is it the fault of Gerard for not learning them, or the director to not cut the scene? Look out for it.

This is poor filmmaking at the end. Why the director left this scene unchanged, or didn't have another take is beyond comprehension.

Likely he read them through the whole film...the man has a hectic schedule (just check his IMDB page) and the filmmaker was probably grateful to have him in the film even if he did have to read cue cards.

The reasons that another take wasn't taken could be any number of things...the film may have been over budget and they had to work with what they had, they didn't notice that his reading was so obvious and the weren't able to get him back for another take, their permits to film on the premesis may have expired but the time they noticed it...

Gerard Depardieu is a truly great actor and I love him in most everything I have ever seen him in but, in my opinion, this was really not his venue. Not only was he not in top acting form in this film, he also was given the worst lines. That poor little turnip story just didn't flow at all in my books. I adore this movie, but not his part in it. Though I did enjoy the bit where he lost his temper in the kitchen.
