'You were in avionics!!!' - so what?

MAJOR SPOILERS

So when the stew pops up Foster realises she's a baddie, but her statement "You were in avionics" doesn't make sense to me. So what if she was in avionics?

Okay, its been ages since i saw this piece of crap, but from what i can remember, Jodie foster works out that the stewardess was in on it, and the plane was turned upside-down to find her little girl, and the bad stewardess searched avionics, therefore the little girl must have been hidden in avionics, cos no-one else found her.

I agree!! There is nothing wrong with being in avionics, and I don't see what all the fuss is about. I am often in avionics at convenient times and people don't look at me weirdly as if to say "oh yeah?".

If I'm home and the phone rings I often let the phone ring till the answerphone cuts in which has a message saying that I'm busy in avionics. It's also useful if you need to get away from a conversation with some boring person, I just tell them that I have to be in avionics and will see them later.

If I'm home watching a film and someone wants me to make some coffee, I just tell them I'm in avionics and might get round to it later - works every time. They just say "oh ok".

I was laying on the sofa the other day just veging, and my daughter asked me to read her a story. I promptly informed her I was in avionics and couldn't be disturbed. People understand if you say it the right way.

The whole "I'm in avionics" trick is severely under rated by most people and this technique should always be mastered and used wherever possible as people hardly ever ask you what you mean, they just walk away sometimes slightly puzzled but no longer demanding.

Long live avionics.

LOL! That was hilarious!

How could Kyle have known she was in avionics? cos Stephanie didn't tell Kyle where she searched during the search for Julia.
If any other stewardess has gone down there, they would have found her so she had to be the one involved, but how did Kyle know?

The mother is suspicious of the stewardess.

Funny. Thanks Old Fashioned Sense.

Old Fashioned Sense, not only was that the funniest thing on this entire thread, it also made more sense than any other piece of analysis regarding this flying crapfest.

LOL @ Old Fashioned Sense's post. I was literally in tears reading it, I was laughing so hard!

I think it's because the Stewardess knew the daughter was in Avionics ( not a word you say everyday) and then lied about it to her face while she was panicking about her daughter.

what would a flight attendant be doing in avionics? as far as I know flight attendants are non-technical people and there is no-one there to serve so why would she be there? i doubt even the pilot would be in there, and i find it even surprising that it's so easy for her or anyone to get in there without serious reason.

besides that computer looked nothing like avionics you would find on a plane, nor would there be that much room.

My answer:

Foster knows the entire plane is searched, but doesnt know where her girl is. She knows the bad hostess searched avionics, hence why no one has reported the girl, because if every part of the plane was searched honestly, then the part of the plane searched 'dishonestly' would be where the girl was.

reply

But in the beginning of the movie when they search the whole plane, Foster catches the stewardess opening a door entering a small area carrying a flashlight. I thought this would be nearby the avionics? Also didn't Foster almost search through the whole thing, it couldn't been that many places left to look for.

reply

Yeah I think you're right. I think she caught a glimpse of her opening the avionics hatch during the search. Since she had an in-depth knowledge of the plane and where all the access hatches lead, she could have easily guessed where that flight attendant was heading and then guessed that her daughter was being held in that area.

reply

I always thought Jodie said 'SHE'S in avionics', meaning JULIA is in avionics, showing that she'd finally figured out where her daughter was.

reply

Just before Jodie figured out that the stewardess was in on it, she asked her where she searched for her girl and the woman told her in avionics...after jodie realised the truth of the situation she figured that her daughter was in avionics...enough said...

reply

She already knew the stewardess was in on it since she'd seen the heart drawn by her daughter in the window. Earlier, the stewardess had said that the daughter's name wasn't on the passenger manifest. So it was clear she was lying, and the daughter must be wherever she had "searched".

How would seeing the heart in the window confirm that the stewardess knew the daughter was on the plane? Did the stewardess actually see the daughter draw the heart?

reply

I found the Flight Attendant's contact lenses very distracting. That's what made me think she was a 'baddie'... :-)

Sorry to reply to an old thread but this is one hell of a funny topic.

And ever notice in nearly every modern plane movie, regardless of the plane the cockpit always has a large and convenient trap door that leads to AVIONICS.... And when you get there it's big enough to stand in.

Not only that AVIONICS seems to have everything mounted on racks and lots of space to walk around the racks of shiny equipment.. You could even put a chair and table in there to sit and watch all the flashing lights.......

LOL seriously
