Grave of the Fireflies reference?

The bit where Akira and Yuki were sitting outside someplace (on her birthday) and she took this Tic-Tac from the pack ("the last one"), it reminded me of a scene from the animated movie Grave of the Fireflies. I haven't seen GotF in a while, but the angles in NK reminded me of it. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this?

Yes, I saw similarities too. Also the fact that the brother could have saved the sister if he went for help earlier but didn't want other people interfering, and stealing in desperation to help her.

Also, eating paper in desperation. In Grave of the Fireflies the younger child eats dirt "rice balls" while on the brink of death IIRC.

Now that you mention it, there ARE a lot of similarities between the two movies...
Nobody Knows didn't make me cry, though. I was sad, but not "cry" sad.
Grave of the Fireflies made me wail like a newborn.

:) have a nice day

Same here, Personziziz. Watching Grave of the Fireflies felt like being run over by an emotional truck... Nobody Knows was fascinating and sad, too, but I was more frustrated that the society they were living in was at peace and yet this was still going on.

Nobody's perfect!

I had absolutely the same feeling! Apollo Chocolates instead of the little fruit in the tin, thou. It's also funny to see how these candies are so intrinsically linked to the ultimate death of the characters - in GotF we see the boy holding the tin until he dies in the train station, and when his spirit opens the tin the spirit of the girl is released. Here, the girl is buried with lots of Apollo Chocolates. Quite touching.
