I just watched the second episode of this series (missed the premiere), and was pleasantly surprised. Not on the level as Doc Martin, but a quirky, funny family comedy/drama that should appeal to fans of English television series.

I very much disliked it because it was so untrue to the book. The 1987 version with Hannah Gordon is much better.

I guess I'm fortunate to not have read the book, so I can enjoy the show as a standalone piece.
