Fionnula Flanagan should have gotten an Oscar
Or at least a nomination...
She was perfect as Bree's mother. Reminded me of Piper Laurie as Margareth White from "Carrie".
I hate Uwe Boll!

She WAS perfect. Absolutely spot-on as a control freak who has NO idea that she's a control freak.
shareAny single person deserved an Oscar for this perfect in every way film.
I'd rather be disemboweled with a toothbrush.
Oh C'mon! Fionnula Flanagan should not have gotten an Oscar or even a nomination. Sure she was funny in a sad way and a scene stealer but she over acted. I could feel her acting even though I am well aware of the fact that there are many women who act the way she does as Bree's Mother. Fionnula Flanagan put on a great show and that's exactly why she shouldn't have been nominated: she was acting and you could tell.
One of the reasons that Felicity Huffman did an incredible job and deserved an Oscar is because she was so subtle yet compelling in her role. She never had to raise her voice or act like a characiture to become Bree.
Piper Laurie was amazing in Carrie but such a totally different character than Bree's mother...Laurie was in a completely insane world, was a supporting actress..or maybe even a leading character and she was wonderful in a sick way. FF is nothing like PL.
Robert Downey Jr. doesn't break character till the DVD commentary but Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't break character until the night of the Academy Awards.
Fionula was scarier in this movie than she was playing a freaking ghost in The Others!
Fionnula looked great, and weird at the same time. It looks like such a fake look, yet it doesn't look fake like a Hollywood lifted actress.
And she is not young at all. I think that she definitely could have been nominated. Even though she overacted etc, this is very much in the vein of performances that usually get notices from the industry. She reminded me a lot of Diane Ladd in Wild At Heart, and she got a nomination for it, although she was crazeeee in it.
