Rushed ending? *spoilers*

I felt after the son's sexual affections were rejected by his parent and he ran away, the operation/recovery/returning to everyday life/the son turning up sequence was really short and rushed. The scene where the son's sexual affections are turned down by his parent should have been a huge scene, but to be such a poignant scene, I felt more screen time is needed before the film ends to resolve it all sufficiently. Anyone agree? X

It did feel a bit rushed but Toby doesn't strike me as the kind of guy for long solemn moments. I think the ending was appropriate considering the characters and at least he did return in the end. Plus cowabunghole, that was hilarious!

I loved the final moment but I do think there should have been more about how he was hitting on his biological father. That's a pretty big thing. When they meet again it's like all Toby cared about was that Bree lied to him. I would hope trying to have sex with your father would be a bigger deal.

"Ich lüge" is German for "I'm lying".

Felicity Huffman was already acting in Desperate Housewives for some time before this movie was made. Unless you meant "casting" as "filming".
But I don't think that would be the reason anyway. Non-Hollywood movie usually don't waste time by painting pretty pictures to put the viewers' mind at ease, in fact I'm surprised this movie has a happy ending at all.

Iv not seen this film for a few months but what do u mean " The scene where the son's sexual affections are turned down by his parent"??

I dont understand it? Toby and Bree got on. I think they were more like friends that mother and son.

Anyway, the scene did feel short and I felt like it just stopped. I would have liked to have seen their reunion more.

I understand that it was shot right before Felicity Huffman was cast in "Desperate Housewives" and therefore restricted her time on set. Maybe thats why they didnt have a longer ending.

What I meant by that is that the son wanted to get with Hoffman's character, who is his birth father! Have you actually seen the film?!

And no, the director specifically chose a somewhat hurried (in my opinion) conclusive sequence after this incident to close the film ...Hoffman being busy with other filming would not have come into it. Please don't suggest such stupid things.

I don't think it was rushed so much as merely suggestive. Not everything is neatly tied up or resolved, but Bree and Toby have a chance of having some sort of family relationship in the future.

It seemed rushed, but I suppose the point was that Toby knew who Bree was, Bree knew who Toby was (as people, not their labels), and Toby was willing to come back and have a relationship of some sort with Bree. So they are starting out with something resembling a family. Where is goes from there is anyone's guess, but isn't that often a good ending for a story. Where did Ben and Elaine go after he "rescued" her from her marriage in The Graduate? No clue, but does that make the ending rushed? Maybe we wanted to know what they said to each other now that they were together or what they planned to do in their future or how to deal with the family (a rather tricky subject, no?). But we are left to ponder all that on our own.

I wonder if anyone picked up on the point that occurred to me. Toby was telling Bree all along that he was going to go to California and look up his real dad - after he got a job and made some money so that he could buy clothes and look decent coming to meet his dad. In a certain odd sense, that is what he did. He got to California on his own (with the help of Granny's money), got a job, settled himself, then went to find his dad. Of course, he already knew the person, and that person was no longer his dad, rather his . . . well, hard to say.

That's very true! Thanks for that perspective! The ending is much more pleasing now. :)

It's a very good film but I agree about the ending, in fact even before that. As soon as Sabrina's mother appears on screen, it takes a complete nosedive and I don't think it really recovers.
