Was the Kids Cussing Necessary?

Although I thought it was funny when the kids spoke out "BIIITCH" and "DICK" in the movie. I found it odd they would put such words in a Kids movie.

reply

I thought that was a bit much for a kids movie too. I mean, there wasn't anything like that in Jumanji.

reply

Neccesary? No. Realistic? Yup.

reply

There can't be no sequel to Jumanji!!!

What...what in the butt. I said what..what in the butt- Leopold "Butters" Stotch.

reply

Who even remembers or cares about Jumanju? Jumanji sucks! Zathura rules!

reply

I totally agree!!! I wish it wasn't in there.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Holy cow--that raises your hackles? What the hell . . . and from someone with a nickname like "Darklord", too. lol

How am I stuck on this planet with such conservative people?

my hackles were unmoved, even raised a slight smile, but i agree with the poster that its a bit innapropriate for a kids film.

Kids these days are dycks. Bet most of them didn't even react to the 'cussing', since so many of them do it on a daily basis.

bleh.

reply

Part of the reason why kids were better behaved in the old days is because television portrayed them as such. Zathura would have been much better if the sister wasn't a smart mouthed punk. Also the older brother was a punk as well. That ruined the movie for my small children. They can't make a decent movie today without some idiot ruining it.

reply

Don't kid yourself if you think kids were any better back in the 'old days'. Just because they don't cuss around their parents definitely doesn't mean they don't do it with their siblings or friends. This is the most naive thread ever, who cares if they say "biatch" or "dick", it just makes the movie more realistic, because when I was that age I was saying a lot worse and I grew up in a very sheltered suburb. Kids will be kids!

"You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."

reply

Nothing is necessary, but it added some realism to a family movie for once.

reply

agreed. kids swear. and they swear just as much today as they did "way back when". im 33. my friends and i used to curse all the time. its reality. if youre poor sheltered kids cant handle a few "swears", which in my opinion "b-tch" and "d-ck" dont even count as dont take em to the movies. that way you can make sure theyre not exposed to anything you consider offensive. then they can grow up to be good little robots just like their parents. jesu cristo, yall need major surgery to remove the sticks from your aszes...

Exactly! That's one of the many reasons i like this movie so much. I get such a kick out of seeing kids behave and argue like real kids. I don't know anyone that got along swimmingly with their siblings growing up.

E.T. is also PG and considered a kid's movie and that has two *beep* and the insult "penis breath". The Goonies is also full of bad language and no one batted an eyelid. People are just more sensitive now.

reply

The 'dick' was realistic, the 'Bitch' unnecesary.

As an outdoor instructor I get to work with a lot of kids. They do stuff that usually gets a reaction (rockclimbing, mountainbiking, rafting, that sort of things). If I think the cussing is bad, I tell them: No swearing, unless it is in a foreign language. English would be a foreign language, so i get to hear sh*t, *beep* d*mn and that's pretty much it.

When I feel they are grabbed by what I expect from them (less swearing) I tell them "swearing is stupid. Everytime you swear, use the word refrigerator." Sometimes you get to touch a kid (yuk, I didn't mean that) and a lesson is learned.
