I love Julianne Moore and I think this movie looks great. I was wondering if anyone got to see an early screening of it since sometimes studios will do free previews before a movie is released.
I don't want to know many details about the movie (I want to be surprised) but if anyone has seen it please post your thoughts!
Zenchick, I'm a man and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I saw an early screening last night at the CineArts movie house in Palo Alto Square. Woody Harrelson (as Kelly Ryan, the father of the family) really put on the performance of his career in my opinion. He was a very believable mix of abusive and apologetic. And Juliann Moore (as Evelyn Ryan, the mother), who has never been one of my favorites, was excellent! She made you completely appreciate how selfless, and determined to provide for her children Evelyn Ryan really was.
To answer your question if it was sappy or not ... it was. But not in a trite or put upon way. The "sappiness" felt like true emotion, and mostly occurs between the Evelyn (mother) and Tuff (daughter) characters.
This is a well done project, and you can feel the love that the cast and crew had for it. It deserves high marks in my book.
