I am sooooo jealous that Illinois does not offer this movie!!!! I can't believe it!! I am very angry about this---because I want to see it--and have since it was publicized on Oprah's show a few months ago at the very least! And I do not want to travel out of state to enjoy a movie--that's ridiculous. There are so many other disgusting movies out there that make their way to our city of Rockford, IL---why in the world didn't this movie even make it across Illinois state lines?????? Whoever makes these kind of decisions should be sent to a psychiatrist this very minute. We need uplifting movies like this one---about a midwest family in the 50's??? Come on people!!! Snap out of your coma and send this movie to Illinois and in fact the whole USA!!!
Hey I totally agree with you. Im a grandaughter of Evelyn Ryan and I have no idea why Dreamworks is dragging their butts. Me and my family have been asking the same questions too. I know that Dreamworks is or has been bought out by some other company. Im wondering if its cause of that? It seems to me that it is a nice movie and people seem to want to see it. I had to go to Defiance to see it. I live in North Carolina!!! You need to spend money to make money I guess. I think that Dreamworks has completely lost it. I dont know what the big wigs are thinking? If they are!!! Typical hollywood for you. I guess the movie does'nt have enough rape, murder and pilaging for them. They are the big losers in my mind. ps. Woody deserves an oscar nod in my opinion. He got my Grandfather perfect. WOW Kelly Ryan Cory
What about Julianne Moore? How did she do, considering you knew Evelyn? Because she's had a lot of praise for the role, and I adore her, but I'm really curious to know what you think :)
I thought Julianne Moore did a great job. I think it was harder for me cause my grandmother didn't look a thing like Julianne. She was dark eyed and dark skinned. But I guess that doesnt really matter in the end. I thought maybe that Julianne would wear her hair darker ect. But all in all she was great. Her dresses seemed a little out of place. Seemed to neat a new for me. My grandmother was a very busy lady to worry about her hair and make-up all the time. For some reason I just thought Woody was great. Hopefully more people will be able to see it.
I know its nothing personal about my family. Its frusterating to know that these talented actors spent alot of their time to make this movie, and Dreamworks is sitting on their butts. If they only knew what they had. Im sick to death of dumb movies getting played in all sorts of theatres and they have no plot, no good acting ect. I can understand why people are upset that they cant see this movie. They either have to travel to another state or wait for the DVD. As far as the family is concerned, we are thrilled to death to have such a great movie made about our Grandmother!!! We talk about it all the time. It was weird to see it the first time. It was mind blowing. I think we all enjoyed it more the second time!! I just want people that want to see it, to be able to see it.
Kelly, I understand what you're saying, but this film isn't the first good one to fall victim to a small distribution. Hundreds of people work hard on every film - even the really bad ones. "Capote", "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Broken Flowers" are excellent all films ("Capote" will probably win for Best Actor and Best Picture) and most of the country hasn't been able to see them either.
I like this movie a lot. I was entertained from start to finish.
I'm another terribly disappointed would-be viewer. I've just returned from a trip to California, where I hoped to see the film. If it's not being widely distrubed stateside, then what hope have we UK Prize Winner fans? I think we should all gang up on the film distributors and urge them promote the film a bit harder! The book sales are going well, so the film should be more widely distributed!
Sorry about your unfulfilled trip. I totally agree with you. I have friends that would love to see it. I have no idea where to tell them to go. I guess they all have to wait on the DVD, if that will come out, we will have to see!!! Lets all get a protest going and demand for more showings of this wonderful movie!!!!
I would be more than happy to start the ball rolling! Anyone who would like to add their name to my list, email me your name/town/country and I'll create a petition to send to the promoters! [email protected]
The petition has commenced! So come on everyone, put your name behind this wonderful movie or you may never actually get to see it! You have to be in it to win it (as Evelyn knew only too well!) I'll be waiting for your emails.
I read fasinating article in San Jose Mercury, couple months ago about this movie. This week I'm on vacation and will be looking for it in the Bay Area, as well the book. For personnal reasons I want to learn as much as i can about that woman and how she conducted her life in such a healthy, positive way.
